I have seen similar units installed where space permits.

Used to go camping with a bloke that had something similar.

He had an electric pump to push the water thru the unit. It was a bit finicky matching flow rates to temperatures required. It did suck the water thru pretty quick, so worked well if parked beside a creek or open trough.

The add says they have improved the heat exchanger.  Would be interested to hear others thoughts.

Look to be like Twine type, they stopped a while ago, units are very good and work welll, it stays plumbed into coolant circut and you pump water through it .
How fast it uses water is up to the pump.....
Can fit thermal mix valve and outlet temp stays perfect
Bleed point and anode are good improvements

Helton make a similar one with all outlets on one end, allows vertical install.

How well do the helton exchangers work? as I thought that the idea behind them was to have the coolant and shower water going in opposite directions. As Areyonga, I to am interested in getting an exchanger of some sort.

Hi,
   heat of the water will vary wildly if you vary the flow rate. i.e. turn the water off for a minute and the water in the exchange tube will be near coolant temperature.


This is not so much of a problem when you have endless water, say from a creek or a tap, as you can just leave it running.


To overcome the variation, cycle the water from a bucket till it is the perfect temperature, then pump from the bucket.

We had a Glind one, was excellent. It had a valve on the shower rose to adjust flow rate, just had to be careful when you stopped it completely then turned it back on as the water would be scalding hot.

Very similar to the piranha I have in the patrol and we have a thermostat fitted to help in keeping the water at a constant temp

I have the unit in the pic, brilliant bit of kit  :cup: :cup:, I have it fitted and plumbed under the bonnet of my tug.

I use it more so when im swaging it with mates or when I take the family up the beach for a day, were it comes into its own, nothing better then a nice cool shower to wash of the salt before the drive home.

The only draw back is you cant really adjust the temp, unless you fit the bits mentioned above, I tend to use mine for a hot shower shortly after ive stopped for the day, the other thing is it builds up very hot water when you stop the pump, and then restart it, burnies big time :'( :'( :'( :'(.

Dont turn it off, leave the shower running into bucket to prevent overheating

I have a glind,has been on 3 hiluxs over 10 years, only replaced the pump once ,only because I left the filter at home when I pumped water out of a river
