My brother has the Ecomate hardfloor and is happy enough. I have seen other FF models cheaper than Ecomates though.

The thing that excites me regarding the Ecomate unit is there association with Modcon which has such a good name in the industry.
Also the positive feedback I have read regarding Ecomates rear fold hard floor units.

It will be interesting to read other peoples thoughts..

Kicking tyres, but we're thinking about moving up to a camper trailer sometime soon, see how we go at tax time...  I love the look of the Modcon forward fold campers, just don't have that sort of $$.  Sounds like the Ecomate is a good option for the budget conscious?

What are people's thoughts on an Ecomate forward fold versus something like a used Jayco Eagle Outback?

My wife and daughters like the idea of camping up off the ground and the quick setup and packup.  We like to travel and often do only a night in one spot.  The canvas touring tent is good, but packing it up takes time, and is a pain when the ground is wet and muddy.  I love the idea of leaving the beds made so we don't have to muck about with airbeds and sleeping bags etc. etc..

Our next big trip is out to Birdsville and then down to Cameron Corner and Trilby Station, so plenty of dirt roads and roadside free camping.  We've only got an old 2.8 turbo diesel Pajero, so can't go much bigger than 1.5 tonne tops.

Appreciate your thoughts and tips.

I have personally seen one of the first Ecomate forward folds in Rocky early in the year, and I was pretty happy with it.

I believe the new ones coming are slightly better again. I too am a massive fan of the Modcon Forward folds but are struggling to justify the new purchase price. I am always looking for second hand units but they are rare and if advertised at a reasonable price get snapped up pretty quick.

There have been a couple of the Modcons for sale recently but they are asking way too much (over 40K) in my opinion I mean you can by a brand new Anniversary model for 33K.

In regards to the Jayco's I am still to young at 34 to consider one so have no opinion  .

I'd say they are 2 totally different style campers for different types of camping.

well, i turned 40 this week, is that too young for a Jayco ?  I've camped with mates who had one and there seemed to be plenty of fussing about with it.  The Ecomate forward fold looks just as easy and I like the kitchen and fridge area being outdoors.  Inside is only ever for sleeping I reckon.

yeh 40 is still way to young..LOL

I totally agree with the cooking arrangements, I believe what most of the people who love the pop up campers like is if the weather is bad you can lock yourself inside and still cook etc which is fair enough but what I love most about camping is being outside so to speak, I have been camping a number of times here in the tropics and its pissed down raining for days, but I just sit back under the awning and or tarps and enjoy the rain with a cold beer!!

Haha, it's OK if you had prior warning of the rain, when it comes out of no where you get drenched trying to scrape the hard ground to somehow divert 20mm of pouring rain!!!!!!

Checked out the latest version of this camper in the flesh yesterday at Sahara trailers here in Townsville. Joe had 3 in his shed which were all sold, 2 are heading to Darwin and the other one heading to Cairns.

I must say this latest version looks great, the finish is excellent and they now come standard with an Oz Hitch not the el cheapo tregg copy . However they still have the no name shocks..
they also now come with better alloy mag wheels. I was advised that they come standard with the full annex, travel awning and now an ensuite tent that zips onto the rear or the tent and trailer.

Anyone considering an Imported Forward fold camper should take a look at one of these, I know they are not the cheapest but in my opinion they are the best finished of the ones I have seen. I have seen the MDC, leisure matters, ABC, Wild boar units.

looks like this is the unit that I will be purchasing in late August early September..

I have one of the rear fold models from the guys at rocky. Great to deal with.
They were just about to release the forward fold when i picked mine up in Nov 13, had a quick look & if they'd had one ready to go i probably would've taken it instead of rear fold. Not that there's anything wrong with the one we have, just the fwd fold may have saved mine & swmbo's knees a bit.

Anybody wanna buy a ecomate rear fold

Good on ya Wilson. They look like a good quality camper. I would think that modcon would have had some strict instructions to their suppliers about quality before they leant their name to them and released them to the public.

if you could squeeze another section onto the area where you sit / kids sleep , to make it a bit bigger , not a bad sort of camper for familys
canvas off the ground , quick looking set-up , basic enough for you to add to make it your own

Nice camper, the only thing that I would break taking it to the Cape would be the front stabilizer feet and the steps that sit too low

Agreed, the steps would be the first thing you would remove if you were taking it on a serious off road track..I never noticed the front stabilizers though until now..

 G'Day All,
               With regard to the Ecomate forward fold  CT.....I have just picked up my new one on Friday from Rockhampton  and towed it back to Mackay on Saturday......I purchased the 2014 model with all the bells and whistles...but i haven't had a chance to set it up and play with it because of rainy weather ect..
    I'm hoping the weather clears Sunday so i can set it up and see how it works. The first thing i do know i averaged 11 ltrs. to the 100 driving it home in my bt50 and it pulled along very well.The model i have has the over night annex along with main annex with ensuite as well. The 2 spare tyres i think is great. It looks great to look at ( just my opinion though ). Hopefully tomorrow i'll be able to set it all up and give you pics and feed back on how it all goes.........                                                                                            PS...  It also has 2x100 ah batteries

I haven't set the full annex up as yet just the touring awning, the ensuite tent / kids room only took about 10 mins to put up
