Do you own a hard floor camper and what size is your family
« on: January 07, 2014, 05:33:56 AM »
So we are looking at new campers and still love the Aussie swag. I have 4 kids but reckon we would still fit with a few modifications

Plus we don't always go away together 50% of our trips it's just me with one or a few kids. Lots are one nights after weekend sport.

So just wanting to know if anyone else is as crazy as me

I've got an Aussie Swag. Just the two of us. With 4 kids you'd need the extra kids room. You can sleep 2 on the hard floor but it's kind a cozy :) OK for a 1 nighter.

We have an Aussie Swag too.

We have two kids and they just sleep on the floor.

We do also have the side kids room and that will easily sleep your four kids, and only takes about 10mins to put up.

Ours will be up for sale in three weeks if you're interested.

we have a KK and have 2 kids (10 & 6), i pretty much never bother setting up the extra room on the back when we go away as there's enough room to get past the kids whilst they're asleep on the floor at night. during the day we just chuck both the self inflatting matresses on top of each other to one side, so heaps of room to get changed etc when that's done. add the extra room on the back and you'd easily put 3 kids in there, at the end of the day it's just somewhere to sleep, and you spend most of your time out and about whilst on holidays.

For the right price I'm interested?;)

We were planing on hiring one first to see where our gear would go. How we would pack ect.
We generally do 1 - 2, two weeks trips per year and the rest of the time it's overnighters after weekend sports.

We have always loved the aussie swag.

Why you selling again jk are you getting a 3rd one

Like you Goldie I too would like a hardfloor (currently have a softfloor) for a family of 2 x adults and 2 kids (11 & 8). Storage space and sleeping space for the kids concerns me but I think I can get the kids stretchers on the hardfloor with them stacked during the day to maximise entry/exit into the camper and any additional storage/food//clothes/chairs etc can go in ARB/Penguin type lockers strapped to the top of the hardfloor when in transit. I would have to hire one for a trip or 2 to test this theory before outlaying the coin for an upgrade.
We have done about a dozen trips from 2 nighters to 4 weeks in the nearly 3 years we have had our CT and have never used the additional walls to create the annexe room and have only used the base 12ft tent bit do realise that a hardfloor will be smaller again.

I have a KK and 3 kids 10, 8 and 3. We have the medium kids room that we put a set of bunks and another stretcher in and there is plenty of room for all. You could easily set up 2 sets of bunks in this room. For overnighters we just set all the stretchers up on the hard floor as we only sleep in there and don't need to be in there during the day. We just bring the 3 year olds stretcher out side and she has a rest under the awning. After being away with friends with a soft floor, I am glad we went for the hard floor option.

We have the KK and 2 kids aged 10 and 7.
No issues with gear.
The 4 chairs are in the back of the car, together with 2 tables and the fridge.
Everyone has its own bag of clothing with is in the CT, together with at least 2 boxes with drinks/other gear.

i doubt we would in KK to be honest. as it is we have 4 chairs in a space case i fitted to the front of the camper, i'd need to buy some cheaper skinnier chairs to get 6 in that spot i reckon (i could do it i guess maybe but wouldn't say definately). clothes wise we always take too many away with us, on big trips our 2 kids clothes are in one big bag i throw in the back of the Cruiser and the 2 adults clothes and towels etc go in the draw, with 4 kids i'm guessing your storage in the back of the vehicle would be fairly limited? there is some room in the front storage boxes to throw some gear, but inside our camper i doubt you'd fit enough clothes for 6 people unless it was an overnight / weekend trip only, and then you'd have to take a minimal amount of clothes each.

Have you looked at the camprites? With the bunks you will easily fit 6 people in comfort and heaps of storage space.

We have a leisure matters hard floor. Our kids, when they come along, us swags and sleep alongside the camper. We use the hard floor area fir bags etc and getting changed. We have only been using one wall of the annexe. Works for us. Kids are 10, 10 and 12

We have the Cub Spacematic Drover. We regularly sleep 5 in it and depending on the age of the kids you could probably get 6 people in. During the day we stack the kids mattresses at the end of the floor so they aren't walking all over them and only takes a couple of minutes each night the set them up again.

We have traveled 6 weeks with 3 adults and 2 kids, with cloths, food, stretchers etc, but we did used 2 space cases on the roof of the camper for pillows, extra blankets, towels etc and is very do-able.

Well you know what we have.  It's just us and 2 dogs ... but it used to be 3 ... and they all slept on beds on the hardfloor (no outside napping for my doggies!  :cup:  )  Now it's just 2 dogs and the porta loo.  Still heaps of room to do stuff.

We went hardfloor as it's up off the ground, so therefore out of the downpour, the river of mud, off the nasty rocks that'll puncture something, away from the snakes and other creepy crawlies (although the ants still move in when they want so I'm guessing the others are a bit timid perhaps).

A few things to keep in consider (in my opinion):  1. ground level ... you'll need it to be as close to level as possible to be happy.  During rainy weather we try to tilt the CT away from the kitchen area a bit to help with any "run off" so it keeps the kitchen side dry.  2.  The hardfloor is better of downhill where possible if you can't be level any other way.  3.  We do a lot of overnighters and don't bother putting up walls unless it's raining and we only have 2 ends usually (we don't own a full enclosure) ... but a draught flap for over the wheels is a very, very good thing!  4.  We hardly ever use the grill.

I don't agree with you only sleep inside though ... it's our change room, toilet block on occassion, storage area, and sometimes our dining & rec room.

If you find things are cramped, why not a small dome tent for the older kids?

Just sold a KK because there was not enough room to accommodate 3 kids. Also had kids room at back but still not enough room.

Went to soft floor with 3m tent, now have plenty of room and can unpack and pack up in less time than the hard floor. It seems to a fact that hard floors are quicker to unpack/pack. I am not convinced. I believe the setup time has more to do with the family size and the ropes and poles rather than purely soft floor/ hard floor.

we have a cape york hard floor camper, 1 tin lid, did 10 months around oz in it and had heaps of room, utilised a xl camp stretcher and tin lid slept on top in a swag, gave us heaps of storage room underneath, have a bunk for shorter trips so we can bring a friend along for one said tin lid as well.

we have considered getting a kids room built but more for privacy ;) rather than space but havent bothered yet.

you tend to pack more non important stuff when you have more room, hubby would be happy if I left his clothes bag at home, not sure that our fellow campers would feel the same.
