Where to camp
« on: January 01, 2014, 09:19:54 PM »
I'm thinkin about takin the family camping but due to wife's working commitments it can only be for one night, I think I need to pull the kids away from the power points for a bit :D
We live on the north side of Brisbane and due to time constraints don't really want to travel more than an hour or so.
I know there are so many great spots around seq, I was just hoping for a few ideas on where is good with 3 kids under 7yo.
We have a camper and a 4x4 so dirt road access isn't an issue,
Thanks in advance folks
I don't need a GPS to get lost, I have a wife in the passenger seat telling me where to go

Hi

Try Neerum Creek (ncbr.com.au) at Woodford, or Kenilworth Homestead.

I was looking at neerum creek, it looks like I might call them in the morning to see if they have any sites available.
I never knew of kenilworth homestead, another one to keep in mind

Use the search button top right in the travel section and look up " gutters " family blog, they have done  good write ups on lots of places around the Brisbane area.. Well worth the read.
" Rumpig " also has a lot of good write ups that may be of interest, try this one http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=29568.0

Buyna Mountains could also be a spot but it would be boardering on the longer end of the travel time though. It's out of the way of a lot of things comercial but it's cool, green and lots of bush walks. Let me know if you are going as we leave tomorow to have next week up there (in a cabin, family gathering) and I would drop in and say hello

Peach trees at jimna is my recommendation.

It's state forest, so its cheap. Well maintained grassy camp ground, creek to swim/relax in. Loads of wildlife, possums, bilbys, birds, goannaa, kangaroos and the yowie.
Only 45 minutes from kilcoy (hour and a half ish from northside of bris)

also check out some local peoples blog sites as already suggested, here's another one i've liked for stuff fairly local to Brisbane http://kit-ecamping.blogspot.com.au/

Elanda Point would be my pick, about an hours drive up the highway if going through Pomona, no designated sights and a great spot for the kids.

2nd this with Borreen Point very close as well and both on the lake. Lake is fantastic for kids as it mostly only knee, waist deep. Loved watching my 5yo and her mates attempting o kayak and just standing up when it inevitably tipped them all out.

Noosa North Shore gets you to the beach?

Bribie island mate, less then an hour from your place, straight up the beach to a camp spot over looking the beach, great fishing swimming etc.

U need a beach permit but that's it, very good spot for an over nighter.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, now I'm even more confused as each one I looked at were all calling me lol.
As I work away I may have to try one of these every time I am home.
We are so lucky to have so many great destinations within a two hour drive from Brisbane.
