Advice on carrying folding boat trailer on rear of camper
« on: December 30, 2013, 07:11:10 PM »
Ok so I have decided to go with a Real easy folding boat trailer the barcoo as it has coil suspension and seeing as space is also an issue at home it fits well for us. the trailer weighs about 68 kgs. I currently have 2 x 9kg gas bottles plus a generator box with a Honda 2 on the draw bar so not keen on adding weight to that. I will post some pics but my current rear bar setup has been strengthened by the addition of a 75x50 box section welded between the rear chassis rails which also supports the rear bar. Does anyone see an issue with adding an additional 68kgs to the rear bar. I also have two jerries back there as well but plan to only use one max if I can get away with it. My other plan was to add in a third support bar welded from the centre of the added cross bar across to below where the spare wheel is attached. Thoughts anyone??? I guess I should also say I am planning on putting the boat on top of the arb rack with a simple cross bar set up so will be on my max roof limit so not keen on putting extra stuff up there as well.

The only advice I can give you is ... from my dad.

Don't tow it on a designated road without rego - yes - even those fold up jobbies.   :police:

No fear we plan to register it and use it to tow the boat down the beach and to the fitroy including port alma. I hear what your saying I read a few threads about guys being fined for towing short distances to the ramp with no registration.
