HEMA Maps for ipad

I have recently purchased the latest ipad.

I want to get HEMA maps on it.

My question for those that know, do I get 4WD MAPS, HEMA EXPLORER or both.

I intend to travel all over the country pulling a camper trailer.

I have the hema 4wd maps on my ipad, It's great.

Cost about $120 I think.

But if you want the 25k topo maps then they are about $150 for each state I think. Bit expensive.

We have the 4wd maps only and have used it to travel extensively and in remote locations and its been great. I think the Hema explorer is more for camp spots and other points of interest. You get some camp sites marked on the map app but e explorer app would be a lot more comprehensive.

I think we will get the explorer app before our next trip. We currently have the camps book but it would be good to not have to lug around.

We used Hema 4wd app on our recently completed lap. Found it very handy and simple to use. The 250k Aus topo that's included is a little inaccurate, I think due to it being old. The numerous other maps included were quite good and gave plenty of useful info.

Not sure what hema explorer gives you but if it's free camp info then wiki camps app is what we used for that. Again, easy to use and had the benefit of reading comments from recent visitors.

When we do our next big trip I reckon I'll use the same again

Hema Maps app has gotten me from edge to edge of this continent a few times. The 250k is government data, what is valuable is the work on the ground Hema has done for their own maps. That stuff is updated every couple of years, especially the high traffic places like the Cape/ Kimberley.
The new Explorer app is different. It ties in weather, camp spots, satellite view and topographical data with the same suite of Hema maps. It's moving towards a unified product with everything in one app you need for touring. I haven't tested it out extensively in the field yet, but from what I've seen, it's the future.
