Parks for kids - how to find them?
« on: December 11, 2013, 05:51:03 AM »
Hi Swaggers.
When planning journeys, I always plan around the kids need to run about in a Park, while we rest.
Is there an easy way to find a Public Park with swings, slippery dips etc for kids when looking at a map?
My present method is to simply type in "Park" into google maps and zoom into the town I consider stopping at, then move the street view around to look at them.
Must be an easier way.

I don't know how they do it but the kids seem to know where every playground is right across Australia.Even when you are in a rush

I too try and stop at a park for the kids. I've never had to go searching, just drive down the main street and keep a look-out.

for us I tend to either google (if i have time) or use google map spot the green sections then use satelite images to zoom in to ensure its a suitable park.

The way i've done it in the past is search on the public toilet map.
https://toiletmap.gov.au/

find one in a park, then use satellite view to spot any swings etc.

Hi,
Park, Toilet or Lookout, entered into the Garmin will usually yield useful information in a strange town.

cheers

Now that looks the goods, how I didn't find that I'll never know, I Googled all sorts of things before making this post.
My biggest fear was having to get a GPS or Smart phone, I have neither, nor a need for it.

Thanks for that, much appreciated.

In addition, I have found that a lot of country towns etc have a park on the way in or out, but the best parks are in the back streets for the local kids to use. I don't intend on doing laps of towns to find these parks.
What started me with this is looking for a park in Casino, NSW. We will be passing through there on the way home from the next camping trip, there are good parks for the Golden Oldies to park the big rigs at and have a cup of tea, but am having trouble finding something for the 3 kids to burn off some energy.
