R W C in vic

Finally I can get a CT . I'm looking at a used one at the moment. I know about transfers and rego's but do you need a RWC or not ? I've been told the ct is 750 kg , but with bedding , clothes , tucker and a couple of slabs I'm thinking it will be closer to 850 kg. The current owner said it doesn't need one , but im not so sure. I want to do it the right the first time. I want to use it in my free time , not work on it. I'm sure someone on this sight can point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help.  ???

Just sold a swan and went through this. If you find and download the tranfer ownership form from the vicroads website, the 1st 2 pages will tell you what you need.

From memory there is a rwc exemption for caravans and trailers under 4.5 tonnes.
The same exemption applies to stamp duty.

The buyer sends the form in and the tranfer fee in $5.90 from memory.

Its all on the transfer ownership form which you need to fill in and sign.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys

I've been looking at the in the last day as I've just sold my old ct to a bloke in Sydney. Do I just fill in the rego transfere form from Vic roads or do I/he have to use forms from NSW Vic roads equivalent ?

Do I get two forms as a duplicate and sign both and get him to sign both as protection ?

Thanks
Buster

From my experience with the RTA in NSW I would sell the thing unregistered and let someone else sort it out!

I think (someone correct me if I am wrong) you can only transfer trailer in the same state. To transfer to NSW reg the buyer would need to get it inspected. So you may have to cancel the reg on the trailer and get a permit to tow it into NSW to get the buyer to get it inspected and re-registered in NSW. I think it can be transferred if you were to move to NSW but an interstate sale will be complicated knowing the RTA.

From RMS (NSW Vic Roads).  Follow this link

Basically give him a receipt (keep a copy) and he applies for new rego in NSW

Thanks for all the replies. I did look at the vic roads site but I couldn't find the plain English version. I'll down load the transfer papers and go from there. I wasn't sure since it will be over 750 kg , but I think they were referring to stopping gear.  ;D

Hi guys
I got onto Vic roads today and spoke to a lady who knew what I wanted to do.
Here is what she said to do :

Give a receipt that has all my details, all the buyers details and the campers details.
Add the date and time they take it and all should be ok.

I think they do a reciprocal deal between states .

On licences they do.
Rego no. It is treated as a "new" registration. At the end they give you the number plates from the old state (depending which state)
That is so you can hand them back for a partial refund.

Hi jonesy

I asked the question when I went in Tuesday . They don't give anything for old plates. That's what they told me. Unless she gave me a bum .
