Deep Water National Park

Hi Wondering if any one has camped at  Wreck Rock or Middle Rock in the Deep Water National Park Area.If so what is it like is it similar to Fraser Island camping on the beach.The web site says you need 4wd to get in and out of the park and camping area is this the case is it like inskip point etc any help or recommendations on the area greatly appreciated thanks or any other suggestions for camping  areas around the central coast of QLD would be great .

we haven't camped there but been in many years back for a look at Wreck Rock whilst we stayed at 1770. you don't camp on the beach as such, but behind the dune and have a very short walk straight out onto the beach, so close enough to be good but with some protection. the track in is sandy, so yes a 4wd would be needed, it's not like Inskip with bitumin Rd beside it, it's an actual sandy track you drive on to get there.

this pic was taken on the way in from 1770, you can see the track in the front of the pic to give an idea of what it's like...sorry don't have any pics of campground, but was a nice enough spot that i've been meaning to stay at for some time now

Pretty much as stated above. Sandy track through the park, can be soft in sections depending on rain & the amount of traffic. Camping behind the dunes & have toilets & cold showers. Short run north into agnes & south down to Rules beach/Baffle Creek. 4wd access is closed to Rules Beach at the moment. Other options for camping around Agnes is Bustard Bay camp ground & Middle Creek campgrounds. Both situated in Eurimbula Nat. Park. All of them are great spots. Some of the beaches just north of Deepwater Nat. park are great for a look as well. Chinamens, Workmans, The Springs  are all beautiful spots although they all require a walk to get to now. Years ago you used to be able to drive down to them.

Some Wreck Rock photos.
Won't comment on access as I'm astounded by some peoples definitions of tracks, but any "soft roader" would waltz it in.

the OP has made reference to Inskip Point which made me wonder if they have a 2wd vehicle going on the trip, as many people park their 2wd vehicles on the road outside that camp area there? where has anyone said it was a hard track?  it can have soft sand sections in dry conditions, which would require some sort of 4wd to traverse it, be that soft roader or what ever...so no idea where your coming from with your comment about being astounded ??? ???

From the South, (Bundaberg side) Wreck Rock can be accessed by 2WD, soft-roader or 4WD quite easily. From the North (Agnes Waters) a 4WD (or in good conditions a soft-roader I would think) will be required. From the North, there is approximately 10Km of sand-track to be covered, to Wreck Rock.

The only thing that I found was that being behind the high frontal dune like we found it protected from wind and that made it a pretty hot campsite in November / December, And as said the tracks at that time had soft patches..To get an idear look for the Gall boys Fraser coast 2007 dvd issue on Youtube ..They drove that section ..

Both possible & probable that a soft roader could drive the track. Some sections do get soft. If they have to pull off for oncoming traffic they may stuggle in the soft/very soft pull over spots. I was up there on the Father's Day w/end & had to snatch a 100 series out that had pulled over to let people through & had sunk himself. Turned out to be a local heading from Agnes back to Baffle.
Access from the southern end is dirt road into the N.P. Depending on rain & when it was last graded it can be a very rough ride in.

P.S. As posted above, the camps can be very hot during the warmer months due to position behind the dunes. Just more of an excuse to remain hydrated :cheers:

I should have been more explicit.
I was referring to the Baffle Ck access, not Agnes. The only thing to watch from the South is, as mentioned, the depth of the causeway about 1/2 way up.
I have heard people say that it is a 4wd only access is all I'm getting at!
