Hi getting to know how it all works in new jayco penguin ob I dont understand why u have to pull out cigarette plug everytime you drop roof cant you just hard wire it in or is theere a reason

 Mate its for safety, if you do not pull plug out you hav epower to the lights if they are left on by mistake and you clode the roof the canvas could catch fire

The older models and infact the 2013 (that i have seen) dont have this, they have a micro-switch on the roof that isolates power to the roof when you wind it down.

Much better IMO.

Also not so much of a fire risk with the LED bulbs (standard in the 2013)

There is also a safety switch up near the roof which is supposed to switch off power if it is left connected, check under the roof where the cable goes, but as a fail safe, as swannie said...better to be safe than sorry..

As Jenko said mate, they have a micro switch but they also have the 12v plug that is removable. Its good to take the plug out as the micro switch can be a little iffy at times and you can break them when your pushing the canvas in ( i have done this)

i wonder what that was for,anything i should look out for i was in and very basic run down becase i didnt buy battery from them they didnt even show me  how ele awning work

All the 2013's i have seen are hard wired the same as my 2003

Bmo I was at the Jayco factory a couple of weeks ago and i seen the inside of 3 of the models and they all has the plug option.

wow... that is weird...

i saw some 2012's in the dealership a while back.. they had the plug. Have seen some 2010's with the plug too.

however the ones i had a sticky in at the dealership where hard wired as is our friends brand new eagle. Possibly a batch thing?

regardless i think the plug is a little redundant if you have LED lights AND the switch
