Broome over the wet in 2013/2014
« on: October 26, 2013, 09:22:18 PM »
Well  :o me. The forecast said we had chance of rain and storms on Friday but being that this would be very early for us to get rain and the long term average says if we do it will be 1.2ml no one was holding their breath.

Anyway, about 3:30 on Friday all hell broke loose, well sort of, and it did rain. Don;t have nay shots of the rain but the clouds tell the picture. Wonder if we will have a really good wet - hope so.

We got 8 ml which is really good and cooled it all down nicley. I'll use this thread to keep posting through out the wet so pop back now and then to see what going on up this way.

From a work perspective we have some clinics that only have Satellite as an option so this causes a lot of grief, we are working with the CSIRO at the  moment, funded by the W.H.O (World Health Organisation) to deploy a new wireless protocol that hopefully will reduce that impact, will let you know how it all goes, it may be quite a fun year for KAMSC ICT.

my No. 2 son likes to get away from the family at christmas (probably not a bad idea) and this year he is going to Broome. Could you give us a long-range forecast? I imagine hot and humid would be close to right but local knowledge is invaluable.

Broome at Xmas is quiet and nice. Yea, very humid with storms likely every day. If the monsoon is here then the rain is very heavy at times and we can get 135mil a day. Every thing starts to get green again and the crocs, lizards, snakes etc are all over the place. You can't swim in the ocean due to the Irukandji Jelly Fish which is the most venomous in Aus and kill about two a year.

The tracks around the out skirts of town a re fun to drive and trips to places like Crab Creek (Yep, cause of the big muddies) are great. Also you can get up to Bard creek for a some Barra fishing as well. You need to watch out for the rain though as if you time it wrong your there for a few days  ;D

Day temps are around 33c due to the cloud cover and the night temps are 29c you sort of feel like your being smacked in the face when you walk aout side but I like it more than the 40c as I don't mind the humidity. It is Cyclone season so you also need to keep an ear out for that and have a plan on where to go if one does strike.

So Broome becomes a sleepy quiet town with some great pubs to drink at but you will find that people tend to stay at home a lot.All in all it awsum around that time of the year so he should have a ball.
