Rear bar check my logic please

Ok as you know I have researching options for a rear bar twin jerry and spare wheel.

Now I havew narrowed the list to 2

MCC - $1890.00  I like the price point the bar is nice to look at with clean lines, cant see one in flesh though, bolts above existing towbar, reasonably untested in rough terrain as I cant find any reviews.Resale value would be sub $1000. no gas struts.


Kaymar $3500 I don't like the price point  but the bar is a fully incorporated towbar, well tested and second to none in terms of strength as it bolts the chassis where tow bar normally would (this seems to be the big difference) clean lines and good swing arms with gas struts.

So over 5 years the mcc will cost $31.50 P/M =$1890 resale of $800ish SO $1890 - $800 = $1090.....  $1090 / 60 mths = $18.10

Over 5 years the Kaymar $58.30 P/M = $3500 resale $1800ish SO  $3500.00 -$1800 = $1700............  $1700/60mths  = $28.33


So from my calcs I am talking the difference of a cup of coffee per month over the 5 years.

More $$ upfront but the best bar avail with zero risk and guaranteed resale value judging by my attempts to find one   

Some one please confirm or deny my logic 

Don't get me wrong $1500 is alot of coin extra but I want to buy once buy right and not have any issues.

Did you consider the possible value (or lack of) added to the vehicle if you sell with the bar?
Kaymar - probably add something to the right buyer ... the other one, dunno.

Yes I did mate, and it seemed quite well built, my issue is that I cant find a report about one that has travelled 10-20-30Ks with a tyre and 2 jerry's swinging off the back of on dirt roads.

I guess as a consumer I want to see the runs on the board so to speak, as a bar they look great and well priced but as twin swinger I,m just not sure.

It just comes down to guaranteed performance , I cant find a report of a failed Kaymar.

A rear bar is a big investment if you plan on travelling some of the roughest roads in aust, so the $1500 I save may end up costing me alot more than that. I raelly want to take the chance and save the $$$ but the little voice inside my head is already singing out "poor man pays twice" and with a rear bar a simple crack can be be big issues just the hassle of a remove /re-fit would see your $$ burnt up.

I am thinking 3.5K =best you can get 2K =unknown longevity.

Yeah the whole aussie made comes into a bit but that's not my main point (rightly or wrongly) I am more looking at proven performance in the harshest environment .

Ever heard of getting what you pay for?
I've had a Kaymar bar with twin 33" MTZ's hanging off the back for just on ten years, It's been across the Simpson, up the Cape, the Vic High Country and lots of trips around the south Coast (NSW). It's been dragged over heaps of rock drop offs and except for a bit of paint missing it's as good as new .

Your exp with kaymar is what I keep reading online and talking with people . Hence my lening towards them .

I am getting a colour coded bar and intend to only fit the spare when we go away.

I will be getting the spare wheel mount too, but only fit it when we go away. No point around town and I like I can access the boot without the need to swing open the spare first.

The power is not the issue, you may have to think again on th suspension though...

It is also 100 odd kg of payload taken up. Bar with swing arms.

KTRR HD springs / poly airs / 90 series raids not sure what would be an improvement over that.

With cheap imports (just like solar panels) flooding the market you may find in 5 years
someone interested in a rear bar will be thinking the same about the difference in price between your secondhand bar or the new cheapo, so your $1800.00 resale might end up a lot lower in another 5 years. $1200 to $1500 might be closer to the mark, it's only a
little more coffee.

Yeah mate under stand that. Kaymar are bloody heavy.  Strong yes, quality yes, but heavy, compared to some others.   
But if your not worried about the weight go for it man.  They are good

Something else to consider, the missus would kill me if she had to swing tyres out of the way to open the back door to put the shopping or pram in the back. She already hates it with the drawers in now.

You could always save even more coin by building your own, I know a dodgy bloke who built one for the back of his troopy.

you and Lost did get thinking I should at least confirm 100% the weight of the bar as it incorporates the tow bar also got figures from 60-118kg so need to find out 100% Dad reckons $3.5K buys a fair trailer to cart my crap LOL

Your old man is on the money also. In fact you and your old man are pretty handy with a welder. Why not make one?  Mine cost a grand and is 70kg with twin tyre carriers.

just buy the Kaymar - sounds like you already know you want to get it, if thats what your "leaning towards" dont talk yourself out of it.  youve done the research.
