Quality Cable Ties
« on: October 25, 2013, 04:48:47 PM »
Gotta replace some of the cable ties holding the stone guard material on the camper.

Where do you buy good quality ones that aren't going to break with the strength of wind of someone walking past?

Was going to head to Autobarn, and Repco to have a look, but thought I'd pick some brains first.

Thorts??

Bunnings, Weller brand

Edit, they only seem to have up to 4.8mm, try Middys or what about some shock cord from Clark Rubber?

Carroll or Cabac.  From electrical wholesalers.  Generally only UV resistant though.

There is also nylon coated stainless steel available

I have just knocked back the first 6 pack sitting in my shed.

I looked at what cable ties I use in the tool box,

I use black ones.

I have a roll of about 8mm stuff that I got to liberate from a closed down hardware shop.........let me know how many metres you want and I can flick it down to you. Shock cord that is.

Any electrical wholesaler.  Sit down when they give you the price though, quality ties aren't cheap.

Thanks everyone. Not sure on the shock cord. I might take you up on it Nomad. I'll *try and measure* it tonight, got other Shit to get ready for Robe.

Might be better than replacing cable ties every trip... but if it gets smashed/split I'm rooted :(

I'd rather pay and get good quality, than pay lots and get Shit quality. Any brands to ask for?

I thought about getting the ones with metal inside them, like cars have from factory, they would last longer!

Thanks again people.

On the last outback adventure I don't  really like the std black cable ties that held my mesh in place.
by the time we got to the Alice it had been a daily replacement program. Sometimes also replacing broken ones whilst stopped during the days drive.
I obtained some fencing wire which I then used instead.
They are still on there, none broke  ;D
I was thinking about getting some Stainless ones but as yet have not done it.
I also was thinking of using stainless cable which I also have not obtained as yet!
It's on the list!

cheers
Cheers

I can't for the life of me remember what the brand is called, but auto barn and the like stock the stainless ties that are used with the fiberglass heat wrap.

Could be worth a look?

The ones you get from any truck parts joint should be heavy duty.
