Job Board
« on: October 21, 2013, 06:58:44 PM »
Hi,

I am wondering if there is any interest in a section on myswag for advertising jobs that are going? Preferably without a lot of comment space, but a way to point out interesting jobs to our rather diverse community.

In case there is (Mods - feel free to delete this post) I can kick it off:

Canberra - Southside

Working for a non-government organisation as an ICT Senior Technology Support Officer.

https://commsatwork.org/careers/ict-senior-technology-support-officer

Looking for a range of skills and experience across ICT, particularly advanced client support.

So what salary range does an ASO3 equate to?

The only problem with moving from private sector to public - the salary bands are typically much lower, and there is less room for negotiation. Good news is once you're in, you get CPI (or more) every year :)

Yes, and yes. Lower salaries and lower negotiation.

For non government organisations like this one, it tends to be lower paid as well, but we get the joys of salary sacrifice, which just feels great to pay way less tax!

But really, the main benefit of the NGO sector is the ability to give back. I say this honestly as somebody who really loves the sector. This particular organisation operates the food rescue service across Canberra (picks up around 20T of food per month and gives to other charities), a small school for kids who have really been through the whole system, and a broad range of other services, including 12 childcare centres, aged care and disability support services, community development and an amazing range of family programs.

Often salary matters, but occasionally it can matter a little less, and the other rewards can begin to show through. NGOs can be a place to step a bit out of the box, if that interests you. Projects continually emerge that can inspire and lead to other ideas of what may be possible. By not having a large staff (ICT team is 6), opportunity exists to grow, adapt, and play in areas that boundaries in large organisations prevent.

Pretty much. We've had about a dozen hail storms here on the coast in the past fortnight. Only 1 made the news.

And it's only the begining of the season.

For those travelling around, we just Spent 3 months in Darwin working and there was plenty of work in a variety of fields for short term temp work. We are still getting phone calls asking if we are available.

However, In Gladstone and Hervey Bay Qld there is not much work at all, in any industry.

The hot tip we received is there is work in Roma Qld if you have a trade. We cannot comment as we haven't been there yet to confirm.

If anyone knows of any good jobs for short term/temp work south of central qld through to Victoria (absolutely anywhere in between) we Will be travelling that way again Feb/March 2014 as we have secured 3 months work for now.

Happy job hunting.

This is a great idea. I'm chasing work at the moment with Philip Morris set to close at the end of November.

I'm certainly not asking for a spot but if there is any recruitment guys in the gas,oil or coal sectors I would appreciate a chat about my CV and what I can do to improve it. I'm a sparky with Cert IV instrumentation .23 years in industry and a couple in construction.
I've just booked an EEHA course and am thinking the HV course might be next.

Thanks guys

Buster

I'm currently working north of Emerald driving a tractor and chaser bin for the sorghum harvest. I know of work about 50km north west of Emerald, they're after a truck driver. The old farmer isn't too tech savvy so hasn't advertised online. He had back packers but they were no good, so had to move them on. Short term would suit travellers.
