I was just asked the question why 15?

I have done this trip with 6 and that was considered a good manageable number.  Trying to get a lot people into places like Chambers Pillar, Palm Valley, Lambert's Centre etc would be a nightmare if there was 20 to 30 of us, even 15 will be a challenge in some spots.

Furthermore, everything just takes longer the bigger group you have. Getting through a set of traffic lights with that many vehicles with campers can take ages.  Statistically too, the bigger the number, the more problems there could be (mechanical) which also takes up time.  You have to expect one every now and then, however if that becomes two or three in the same day we will get no where.

Also, the gap between the first and last vehicle would be so large that they would be out of UHF range in some places when we are travelling on dusty roads, and that would mean relaying messages and just a general PITA.

Finally, when checking into the paid campsites, the first few will be all set up and finished off two beers by the time the last person even makes it in the reception door.

So what I am really trying to say that as the organiser, I would like this to be a holiday for me too, and not a 16 day logistical nightmare where all I'm doing is stressing about how I am going to coordinate so many 4wds with camper trailers.

Believe me, I would like to take 50, but it is just not feasible or practical.

Sounds fair to me.

Whilst we haven't booked yet (keep forgetting) we are a definite. Both of us have put in for long service leave and will be there with bells on.

That's two adults and two kids (will be 7 and 3).

Really looking forward to it and getting very excited!

Oh, and thanks. John for all your work organising this. If i can lend a hand at all, shout out!

We are also very close in confirming a spot, have had looked at the info packet and like what we have read.

The wife has booked her holidays, I have gave work the heads up, we are focusing on trip to the Vic high country right now after Xmas (with out the camper)  and if we make it back with out any dramas we will firm up all of those bookings. Hopefully by end of Jan we will be confirmed.

Dan,Mel and Nathan, Jackson (B 9yo + B 4yo by then).

Appreciate all the work that has gone in to the trip planning so far and any info gained reading the threads for the trip, will be 1st time for us in that region....  :D

Hey Vic.
If you are thinking of doing the trip, I'd highly recommend having a look at the excellent info book JKohn has put together (in one of the links D4D posted above). It's very informative and will really whet your appetite for the trip. If you PM JKohn with your details he can email you a copy.
Looks like the southern convoy to the red centre is growing ;D

Ok, booked Alice Springs and Ayers Rock, and just going with the flow for the other sites on this trip as it appears most areas don't require a booking or have already been notified of the group arrivals by KJohn.
Let me know if I need to do more.
Now it is on with preping the vehicle and finish fitting out my new canopy.

Must get rid of this embarassing pic - I don't ALWAYS get bogged, lol  8) 8)

A late addition to the trip...
We are 95% committed subject to a detailed "to do" list and associated budget. Final decision by Friday!

Darren, Karen & Reuben (1.9b) leaving from Perth.

Can't afford much time off (I'm in Europe until the 22nd June) so the wife and boy will cash in some FF points and fly over whilst I'm looking to drive across the GCR. Going to allow 3 days. 900k Day 1 and 600k Day 2 & 3. This solo drive is one of my concerns...  :-[
I've done 1100k solo a few times, but never that amount of dirt driving and not 3 consecutive days.
