Question for the Guru's
« on: October 08, 2013, 06:59:07 PM »
Ok, question for all you camper gurus out there!

We are slowly doing up an old Jayco Dove and we have found that the fridge is kaput!

So I've taken it out. There's a nice big space now for some more cupboards etc etc.

However, this is a Jayco windup camper which normally has a fridge! My question to the guru's are, is it worth replacing the Fridge or just run with the Waco?

NB We are both very happy to run with the Waco. Much more Camper Trailer than Caravan! Just concerned about the effect on the resale value of the camper!

Have you tried turning the fridge upside down and leaving it for a day as sometimes that rejuvenates the old fridges.

To answer your question I would leave it in as the gas fridge is handy for camping where you don't have power or for those that don't have a battery setup to run 12v fridges.   I find you can never have enough fridge space when camping with kids!

Hey mate, yup, did the upside down trick. She's kaput! :(

Got 3 x 100AMP hour battery's in the car and ct, so 12V isn't an issue!

Could always put an upright 12v/240v Waeco in its place , yeah I know its yanky and not a waeco but you get the idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgnYP1Ou1AI

Leave it as a space until you find an upright engel or waeco on gumtree at the right price to replace it with.  That is what we did, the one we found was a lower height than the old 3 way so I put a drawer across the top, the extra draer space was a winner and the food was always proper cold.

Yea, I agree with Burnsy. Seems that the Waeco 12v are doing well as a refit item for price. Bottom line is, if you have the amps then nothing will touch 12v Compressor fridges for good cooling. I don't have a van but in the camper and car the compressor fridges are just so much better IMO. If you've done the 'turn upside' down thing then there is  no point keeping it.

get rid of it and utilise the space to store extra cartons of beer -. Have an engle/waeco out side in the annex to keep the beer cold and if you need a fridge for food ( for a reason why i got no idea ) then take 2 fridges.
