Stolen 2 mth old Cub Daintree
« on: October 03, 2013, 01:55:31 PM »
From a mate.

http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/general-discussion-18/2013-cub-camper-kamperoo-daintree-stolen-pearcedale-oct-3rd-117258/

Sadly our brand new Cub Camper was stolen last night right from in front of our bedroom window. It's was there at 11:30 when we did the bins and gone by 5:00am this morning.

Got back from our trip Monday and had been waiting for a break in the weather so we could unload all our clothing and gear after the trip. Was going to wash it before securely storing it.

That is bad news lost, hope they recover it but unfortunately it doesn't always work that way.

suppose you are right........BUT we continue to alter our way of life to cater for the scum bags, it feels like your front lawn should be a safe place, and you ought be able to do that, its time our legal system was actually a deterrent rather than the law abiding having to cater for the fact that crooks are taking over.

Shoot a few and the word will spread I reckon

This is happening all too often, I presume that they just use a box trailer number plate to tow the camper when its being used maybe the police should have a number plate scanner that advises that the plate belongs to a box trailer and they may find  a few of these stolen campers. If my jayco  is ever left in the driveway overnight I put my locks on the treg and park the prado accross the driveway to block it being easily towed away. Otherwise it locked up behind gates.

Don't you just wish you could catch them in the act. We had our car stolen a and written off over 20 years ago. My blood still boils when I think about it.

Dirty dogs..... I just can't fathom how people think its their right to take someone else's property.

In my young days one night at home My mates and I came home to find a little thug trying to hotwire my Torana. I'm pretty sure from people who still know the bloke it was the last time he ever stole anything :)

Sorry to hear this, really gets everyone's goat.
However I know that all Cubs have a VIN plate as well as the last 4 digits of the VIN welded to the Drivers Side of the draw bar at the coupling.
If you let the Swaggers know this info that way we all can keep an eye out, where stolen from (city or suburb), anything which could help identify it would also help.

Welcome mate, if you have a photo or two post it up, particularly if there is a unique scratch, dent or some other mod that could help identify it.

Regards

The welded on number on the chassis/drawbar is: K3365

Being virtually brand new there is very little in terms of distinguishing marks.

The chassis is galvanised so if any numbers were ground off it would have to be reprinted to match.

That is part of the problem, in Victoria at least, in that VicRoads don't recognise that camper trailers exist, so we are all registere as 'box trailers'.  Bloody rediculous.  Just like insurers insist on us all being 'caravans'.  How hard is it for the 'system' to acknowledge that this category of vehicles exists?!!

Hopefully the distinctive nature of the Cub make will be a help in this regard, ie.not just another box trailer design that can be easily passed off as a 'home build' when being registered.

I'm betting it was an opportunistic theft.. If it wasnt there for more than overnight, scrotes probably driving around lookin for Shit to steal lucked on it out the front and that was that.. No planning, no spare # plates, nothing..

Who at midnight to dawn is going to question a car driving down the freeway with a camper hooked up.. although there were probably 0 people alive in Pissdale at that time of the morning...

A stupid question!
What would scumbags manage to do with a trailer like this?
Can't take it to Crime Convertors OR flog it on the Bay of Evil.

Been a few discussions on this in the past... but most common idea is scrap metal. Massive waste, but who knows.. either that or its perm setup on a farm somewhere now.

I have heard of them getting a new vin number from Vic roads and then re registering them with a new build plate. Either as a home built or import.
I remember when I registered a boat trailer from the states, due to the vin only being on a sticker and it was illegible they gave me a new vin.
so I guess if you know what you are doing it can't be too hard.

I hope this isn't the case, and all works out well
