New AS Owner

G'Day All,

I just purchased my first off road camper. It's a June 96 Aussie Swag Rover. Been searching for months for a used camper and travelled many miles looking and ended up buying one about 500 metres from home. I think it must be one of the first Rovers off the line as AS said it wasn't sold until late 96.

I'm looking forward to our first trip in her in a few weeks. It's pretty much original except for some mods on the drawbar and changed to fixed eye shackled suspension. I've been told she's been around Oz several times in her life and other than some stone chips, everything is in excellent condition.

Anyway, here's a few shots of it. I look forward to getting mod ideas from this great site.

Steve

All it needs is a touch up on the paint work here and there. The original canvas is in excellent condition and the annex walls and extension looks like it's never been used. It's a testament to how good our Aussie made campers are. 17 years old and going strong. I was tempted to buy a new shiny imported camper but decided to go with a tried and tested camper. SWMBO really liked the look of the imported camper but I had visions of me underneath it in the middle nowhere trying to fix it. I phoned ASC before I bought this one to see what parts they had for this oldie and was pleasantly surprised that if I do need any parts most are available or can be made to order.

During my search I found that the imported campers varied greatly in build quality even from the same manufacturer. Especially the welding of the chassis and suspension. I would have liked independent suspension but it'll have to wait and save up more beer coupons.

I'm planning on replacing the main unit seals and pinch weld seals before I hit the dusty trails.

Congrats! It looks like it is in great condition and certainly a testament to the quality of genuine Aussie built campers.

I just went through the same process and after seeing the quality first hand of the few I inspected, I couldn't justify handing money over for any of them and went Aussie too.

Have fun, your in a great part of the country!

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?  (Homer J Simpson).

Looks on great condition.  They're a great camper.  Have just spent 4 months on Western Australia on all sorts of roads including the Anne Beadell in ours.  no problems whatsoever. Enjoy.
