Whats in your drawers........?
« on: September 13, 2013, 06:13:20 PM »
My wife said to me......."What can I put in my drawers"
WELL...........there in lies a whole can of worms....

We recently just purchased a new set of Outback Interiors drawer system with rack and divider with a flush mounted fridge slide.
Not having had extra storage in the car we are wondering what should we use the drawers for.....?
With everything normally packed away in the CT we are wondering what things we might use the drawers for.......Tools, toiletries, kids stuff, food, bedding, clothes......

What do you use your space for and why ?

We have alot of spares for the car in the side wheel arch space too, like 2 spare shockies, belts, filters, small toolkit, funnel and radiator hoses along with some wiring and 12v spares.

Looking for some good ideas.....
If the spelling and grammar are good, it's a post from Lil. If not, the mad Scot is on the keyboard ;)

One side I have all kitchen gear , plates , cutlery , cups, etc and the other side compressor, tool kit and other bits and pieces for the car. That way I just have to add the fridge for day trips etc.

Pretty much stays the same all the time. Worked well at on the Gulf trip.

Don't recommend coffee and sugar either, but at least they weren't in the draws!

If I had draws I'd keep the recovery kit and some tools and bits an pieces like parts, jumper leads etc in one (if it would fit) then the second one for what ever was left. Maybe if it was long enough I could get the little shotgun in the other and put a lock on it? Would need to be somewhere that SWMBO couldn't find it!

I had removable drawers in my Pathfinders so I kept them loaded with my kitchen stuff (plates etc)
I simply slid them in for a camping trip and pulled them out again when I got home so they weren't rattling around all week.
Nice and easy!

Depends a bit on how long we are going away for. On longer trips both drawers usually have our normal pantry type supplies i.e. tinned food, long life milk etc, packets of chips and other snack food, and vegies that don't refrigerating i.e. onions, potatoes etc. With the tinned food I usually write its contents on the top with permanent marker so we can easily see what is in each tin without having to pull each tin out to read the label.

We now always put long life milk etc in small plastic tubs. When we went to the cape a few years back we had a milk container rupture and leak into the drawers then into the carpet under the drawers - it was very smelly and it wasn't until I got home where I could pull the drawers out and shampoo the carpet that we completely got rid of the smell.

On shorter trips of a few days one draw usually has the recovery gear etc in it, and the other a bit of dry food as above.

We also have the rear divider and shelf. We usually put towels and a picnic rug on the top shelf as they are light, and although the towels can be a bit bulky they can be squashed into the required shape and don't rattle or slide around.

I made my draws removable so I can pack our clothes in them. Once we are camping I set them up on a fold up table inside the camper.
