car sales scams
« on: September 12, 2013, 09:19:32 PM »
was reading about car scams on a very old post a couple of days ago. We are selling our i30. Low and behold tonight I get this email.

thanks for the swift response...Due to the nature of my job and my location i will not be able to come for inspection,am a very busy type as i work long hours everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it so i will call you when am chanced but as of now we can be chatting online or sending emails to each other.

As for the payment..i will be paying you via the fastest and secure way to pay online(PayPal).

I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the payment have been made ...so no shipping included.

You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and also include your address in your reply. If you don't have a paypal account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com.au and sign up. its very easy.I await your reply asap.

I have reported it to carsales.

Yeah I had a friend advertise his 80, and he got 2 similar letters, both saying they worked on an oil rig,

very sad, really.

Mate I had exactly the same thing happen. I strung my bloke along until I got his details and a contact number. I then cced Crimestoppers into the email trail.  >:D

Now I am disappointed, trying to sell the wifes car and not even the scammers have bothered......

I do get them on Gumtree for a Girls Bike I have for sale, here is the latest:

"Hi. I'm interested in your bike on Gumtree. I live just up the hill from the Westfield, and I use my bike to ride to the station to get to uni. It's kind of old, though, so I'm interested in a new one. "
Whats the Point to that?
Considering my add says "CALLS only due to scammers" I have had 5 of these type of emails.

They usually ask questions that are answered in the ad like what's the condition and price.

Theres about 100 of these threads...
Gumtree is common for these scams, and also for things being forsale that the seller doesn't really have... they steal photos from Ebay ads and reuse them

Yeah, could have quickly gone downhill and kept going had Chester written what was my first response.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

I had a phone call the other day from a lady with bad engrish stating she was from Microsoft, and that my computer is sending an error code. She said to log on so she could access my computer remotely to fix the error! Jeez what do these people think? That everyone is nieve?
I laughed at her and hung up.
