Noodling for potch
« on: September 11, 2013, 12:37:56 AM »
Okay, driving back up home to Darwin from Adelaide next week. As we passed through Coober Pedy on the drive down last month my five year old daughter asked what the mounds of earth were. I told her and almost every day for the past three weeks she has reminded me that we are staying in Coober Pedy overnight and she is going to dig up some 'special shiny coloured rocks'. I've read of a spot called the 'Jewel Box' but does anyone else have any spots where they managed to find some potch?

I have to make sure she finds some or the drive out is going to be misery......

Go to the old timers mine museum and mine tours in the town. It has a noodling pit out the front and the tour through the mine and under ground house is very worthwhile.

X2, I think the pit out front is free. I think we spent as much time digging through the rocks as we did in the mine.

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?  (Homer J Simpson).

Desert cave hotel in town has a arcade with a gallery and shop built in with a free underground display that is worth a look.
Underground rooms are good too if looking for accommodation.

Have a look at Faye's Underground Home.  It is a living museum. There are even a couple of  old fossils  >:D who live there and conduct tours of the dugout.

There is a large public noodling area nearby.
Cheers,

Tom.
