One for Cub Clubbers
« on: August 19, 2013, 08:09:08 PM »
Hi all, been preparing the cub for our trip and noticed that the centre uprights don't stand up straight, they lean out towards the awning side & the top bow looks bent as well. I did notice that when we closed it up last time the centre bow protruded out and had to be pushed in to allow the camper to be closed. I have straightened it the best I can and was just wondering if any others have had this problem. [ we had the same problem last year after being hit with severe winds while at Arkaroola last year, went to cub in Melbourne and thought it was fixed] Took a pic but does not show up the problem

Our centre tent bow leans toward the awning side and it has a slight dip in the centre. Not a big deal to me and doesn't affect the tent set.

Thanks for your reply Snow, ours is a spacematic and when lying in bed I think it's going to collapse to the side (that was before) since straightening it looks ok now. As I said when we closed it up the centre bow stuck out at least 6/8 inches and had to be pushed back to close. Seems ok now. Again thanks

Thought it was better to use a thread instead of starting a new one and the title suits.

I have a Cub Supamatic and one of the zips for the door is becoming faulty (doesn't zip closed) and the only way to replace the zip is to remove the whole canvas off the body. Has anyone ever done this and is it an easy thing to remove and then put back on?

Really not looking forward to doing this since I have no idea how it will go but if anyone has experience then that would be great.

Its not that big of a deal, if you have two people it makes the job easier though.

Not sure how the Cubs are fixed in, track, screws or rivets. With the tent up, remove screws and lift off tent.
Are the bows in pockets? If so I find it easier to remove bolts holding bows to camper as well. Slide bows out, have them numbered or lettered so you know where they go back.
Also not quite as important on a camper, mark left and right. VERY important on boat covers.

Drop off at the canvas guys workshop, let them do their magic. Make sure they use either YKK or Paskal zips, #10 Chunky or Spiral (depending on application)

To install repeat what you did to get it off in reverse.

If there are any cover strips or other parts that need to be removed, number each item so you know where they go back.
Keep screws in an old tin or container.

Check with the canvas place when they can fit it into their schedule before removing!!!

Private rant ~ I can't believe how many people drop covers off their boat / camper / tent whatever to our workshop and have the idea that I have been
sitting around all day for them to walk in the door and be ready to start on their job straight away  ???  >:(

I had a 2009 Supamatic and the main door zip started to give trouble when it was just out of warranty.  I followed the advice of others and used some pliers to tighten up the trailing edge of the zip closer.  Worked a treat and cost me nothing.  Cub have now gone (in 2010 I think) to a vertical door zip which is much better.  Zips don't like corners.

Ours is a vertical zip. But did set the camper up today to try the pliers on the zipper and lo and behold  it worked so no expensive repairs required at this stage.
