Any Home alarm Installers Onboard

Hi All,
Are there any members who install security systems. I am in the middle of installing a new alarm at home and am stuck on a few things.

I am replacing our alarm. I have the new panel in and powered up. All zones are hardwired (PIR's and reed switches).
The issue I have is 2 of the reed switches are showing as permanently active or on. When opening these doors it didn't change the status of the zones. I then put a resistor in and they still display as on but now when you open the door the zone goes to off. It appears to be opposite to the way it should be.

The reed switches aren't the ones that can be wired N/C or N/O and you've just wired them up wrong by any chance?

Good point but no.
The reed for the roller door is a sealed unit and the one for the normal door has the fig 8 soldered to the switch. I have seen them before where there is a common and a N/O & N/C so you can choose what you need. It worked on the old system but maybe I need to change the reeds.

I trust that you are licensed to do this?

What resistance are you getting when measuring across the cable with door open and closed? What panel are you installing? What panel did you have?

You don't need to have a licence if you are doing your own alarm and it's not connected to the telephone network. Happy to offer a 2nd pairs of eyes, I used to do a lot of alarm work a few years back

You do have to be a licensed cabler if it has the ability to be connected to a telephone network.

I haven't measured the resistance yet but will try to get to it this weekend.
The old panel was a Sierra and the new panel is a Ness D16X

The Ness panel will want the resistor in line series with the reed. I take it the resistor is not going from one terminal of the reed to the other, but in line with one wire from the panel, via the reed, and back to the panel via the second wire in the pair? some panels do this (concept1000/2000/3000) for tamper vs alarm staus

Thanks for that. I spoke to someone yesterday who also suggested the resistor in series so I will give that a shot this weekend.

Yes, the NESS requires a 2.2K resister to be inserted in series with the reed at the reed.

To test it put the resistor in line in the panel end to see if it works. If it does you should then make sure they are soldered in place at the reed switch otherwise if you have a short on the cable anywhere you wont realise.

If when you put the resistor in previously you put it in both the zone terminal and the common in the panel then this would show the symptoms that you had.
