Adjustments to Jayco Dove for arthritic camper
« on: August 14, 2013, 10:05:20 PM »
My doctor told me I should give up on the idea of camping on my own with my 80's Jayco Dove. I will not go down without a fight!  >:( So I'm asking all the well healed swaggers for a few suggestions, keeping in mind the cost issue, to maintain my independence. The main issue I have is lifting, pushing and pulling. Yep, she's falling apart but not falling down. Anything suggestion that will take the pressure off the spine while setting up. I have some power in my drinking arm.  I've thought about the ratchet jockey wheel. Haven't actually seen it in action though.   ???

Sorry to hear about your health issues mate, you may want to suss out a cordless drill. They are handy to anything that needs winding up or down.

G'day GG,
Like Hem's suggestion, First thing I thought of was a drill or something similar to help with the winding of the winch.
There would be some kinda setup out there that could be bought or adapted to to this.
Someone had done an Air Ram push up system, if my memory serves me right, A swagger might know of that thread or who did it.

Maybe a strut for pushing the bed out, not sure how that would be setup.
They are some smart buggars here that may have some idea on how to do this.
Hope you find a solution and you can keep camping & travels.
All the best with it.

Edited: To add about the Air Ram System

Thanks everyone! Great advice there...will purchase cordless drill and looking into a swing up ratchet jockey wheel for now. The weight of the motorised jockey wheel is around 20 kg. Going to look into whether I can swing it up for travel when the money tree gets more fertilizer. Heading to Daylesford and Ballarat CV parks with daughter and two ankle biters for school holidays. At least I have Mel to help with stuff thats too difficult...like threading the canvas awning. May look into a bagged awning...Hey Speewa! If my brother cant fit the jockey wheel...I'm paying you a visit...it was just one slab entry fee from memory???!!! ;-)
