Buying off Aliexpress
« on: August 11, 2013, 12:21:57 PM »
Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a diesel heater off aliexpress,
This one in particular,

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Air-Parking-Heater-webasto-diesel-heater-water-heater-boat-heater-airtronic/721825155.html
(Edited to a link that actually works)

The one listed on here previously in another thread does not ship to au anymore.

Anybody bought one from aliexpress and have any thoughts?

AC

Aliexpress is my first point of call now. I've bought about a half dozen items, including an instant hot water system for about half the cost of an equivalent eBay item. It delivered in about 5 days using EMS shipping.

I've only this week received two CCD reversing cameras for around 70 bucks including EMS shipping. EBay sellers want 80 bucks for one.

They use escrow, so you pay up front, the money only goes to the seller once you acknowledge receipt. If you don't get the goods you open a dispute and get your money back. I haven't had to use this yet.

I've had about 5 disputes with sellers on eBay with around 180 transactions.

Cheers, Marschy

No worries. I am going to give one a go as well. At <$600 and the few times I use it should be worth it. I can't justify the $2k for LPG.

I ended up paying $470 delivered off the site above.

Apparently it is freighted and on its way.

I would have preferred a gas one as well but too expensive. I figure its ten nights camping in winter away from caravan parks. Worth every cent. Most of our travelling happens in winter due to work over summer.

You talking USD?

Funny my wife justified it exactly the same way  me it's just a mod and a toy and I want one

That's how I justified it to my wife. To be honest, I have camped until now just using a good sleeping bag and a beanie. But if I want to go where I do, to go, her and the kids want to come and they don't like the cold. Money well spent if it means I spend 6 weeks a year on the road- it just happens to be in winter.

Sorry $513 delivered AU so yes about $470US

And it has snowed here between Christmas and New Years a few times.

Good stuff Andrew, how much do you figure you saved buying from aliexpress compared to eBay or local suppliers?

Cheers Marschy

The cheapest locally including ebay was $680 for exactly the same from pinnacle wholesalers. So about $170 saving.

Nice idea ... thinking of getting one myself.

What extra bits do you need? (assuming you've got your head around that yet)

In particular, diesel tank, in/out ducting (i.e. for the camper air, not combustion air/exhaust).

Thanks.

Yep, some sort of tank, I am using a 10 litre jerry can, fitting to attach to the tank are supplied, and 60mm flexible ducting and vents. Everything else seems to be there.

Thanks Andrew ... sounds really good (I expected there to be much more than a jerry can to add!).

Very keen to hear how you go ... particularly with respect to how loud it is.

Please do keep us informed.
