Fridge slide hits the boat!
« on: July 30, 2013, 07:57:37 PM »
Hey folks, thought i'd throw this out there as there seems to be no workable solution in my mind, hoping i've got tunnel vision.

I've never towed anything on a decent trip before and we're setting off up north towing a 3.8m tinny with the hilux, old man is towing a caravan in his bt50 and we both have the same design for rear storage/fridge slide. Long story short, it just occurred to me today that my fridge hits the boat winch before it can fully extend. This is not good. I don't fancy unhitching everytime we want a coke on the road!

Anything really obvious i'm missing as far as a workaround or fix?

Pic might help?
Plus which brand fridge?

Sometimes it is possible to move boat and winch post forward or backward, but need to watch balance of weight on trailer.

back up and jacknife the trailer a little, will that may move the winch over to one side enough ?

I bet if it was beer instead of coke, you'd get it worked out pretty quick.

That's about the only idea I've come up with so far. I'll hitch it up this arvo and get a few pictures. Preliminary measurement looked like it'd be 30cm minimum short of extending out fully so I don't like my chances of being able to move the winch that for without doing something like extending the drawer bar.

Looking at making up a fridge slide that comes out with the long ace of the fridge facing you for the other car and just using that one for things we use frequently.

Simplest solution would be an esky and a bag of ice for drinks/lunch so at least it won't be a complete disaster. Fridge is a waeco cf80.

Slide your hitch receiver out a bit further (don't know how this affects the strength or weight ability of the bar though).

you could always buy a bigger boat, they have a longer drawbar.

Wire up the boat and put the fridge in the boat that way the beer stays cold while your out on the boat.
That or is it possible to remake the fridge slide so the fridge sits sideways.
