Fuel Discounts in Vic atm, what's the go?
« on: July 20, 2013, 05:16:24 PM »
What's going on with the fuel discounts atm? From a flybuys email, I just spent $100 at Coles and received a 30cents off per litre voucher. With my 150l tanks, it's a good saving.
Then I just saw add on TV Coles advertising 20cents off per litre.  Woolies have been advertising 17cents off per litre and then I heard a rumour of a possible 45cents off per litre from woolies.  Yeah right, there's no margin on fuel?  So if I don't have a discount voucher and pay full price, who's making the money?

Is it just in Vic or happening around the country?

Do you need to ask ;)

But you do know your not really saving a penny don't you? No, they are not being really generous and letting YOU save money.. they make double the profit back on the Shit you bought in the first place.

It is an even simpler scam than that... The day after they announced the increased discount petrol prices went up over 20c/litre.    ???

They're making the money either way.

It's called a  loss leader, get you to spend $100 on goods with a 50% profit margin, then give you a portion back as a discount.  How may times do you go into the supermarket to buy a few things, and then get conned into doing a major shop to get the discount is what they're thinking.

Either way, the small independents can't win, they close up, and the market gets more concentrated.

been there, done that!

Either way, the small independents can't win, they close up, and the market gets more concentrated.

That is their long term goal.  Then you can kiss goodbye your fuel vouchers and they will screw us for both food and petrol.

Diesel was up to $1.58c/L today - it was $1.24 just 3 years ago - that is a 25% increase in just 3 years!

Also Premium unleaded - it used to be 10c more than regular unleaded - now it has just crept up another cent to 17c difference!!!

Don't think that the independents don't do well either at the moment - our local independent is now getting around in a Ferrari F360!!

Okay, this is getting confusing.  There is a thread about some skimmer and an atm, and now something about a Victorian atm, can someone please do some clarifying here.  I do know that an atm is the machine where a card goes (I do not have such a card, pour oldest daughter does all that) and money comes out.

atm in this context is short hand for "at the moment". Its text message speak.

TJ

The skimmer on an ATM (automatic teller machine) is a device attached to the machine that reads the information off the card as it is inserted, in an attempt to fraudulently remove money from someones account.

The atm referred to in the first post is a internet abbreviation or shorthand for "At The Moment"

I hope that helps mate!

Believe me Scarps, having now spent some time in a huge city (Darwin), I do not envy anyone living in a city, I actually don't know how anyone could call that living at all.  Noone had the time to hi, the smell of exhausts was horrible, the black drunks were a disgrace to my race (aboriginals) and I could go on and on.  I can only say no thanks, I do not want to return to a city, I am a desert black fella.

Thanks Lino6, and my daughter has just explained text message to me...we don't get mobile phone reception here, and when we do, I usually get someone to do the text thingo for me.  People can laugh at me sometimes, but I challenge them to come and live here for a while, they would soon be crying to ge back home I think.

I always get a giggle out of the 'cheap day/s' thing... Implies you can get away with one fill a week.  "Luxury!!!".  At two fils a week I'd love to have just one fill at any price.

Can't find the link, but I read that the discount docket system is actually pushing the price up at the pump.

Our local fuel went up 15c/l overnight, went up again another few cents on Thursday.

At around $1.60 per litre, percentage wise, its a small increase, but seriously WTF !!!

I'm glad we have our scooter, yet wish I had the energy to get on the pushbike more.

Everything is going up, wages stayed the same and taken a cut to keep my job.  I guess you just shrug and carry on and grumble a little.
Not much you can do about it all I guess?????
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

We have been payiong $2.60 a litre for nearly 3 years now, I would love to only pay a city price.  I guess it costs a bit to ge it here.
