How to hit 110 % on the scumbag scale!
« on: July 07, 2013, 06:08:08 PM »
Popped this on  the Facebook page too

Yesterday while at Tunnel Creek near Windjana NP,  WA, some  scum sucking a$$hole of a maggot, stole our tow hitch, complete with pin, tongue\hitch and car side of the Treg! I mean seriously, what kind of  subhuman lifnightsm strands someone  150km from anywhere!?!?!

A few choice words were said, and a scour around to see if some lark had just taken it off and dumped it nearby.. no luck!

We return to Windjana NP to assess the situation. The rather pregnant Mrs Delux is reclining when a passer by inthe now very busy camp site comments on how relaxed she looks. Mrs D remarks shes actually a bit stressed asit seemed we were staying a few extra nights and explained the above skullduggery. She sympathises and after a chat heads off

She mentions it to her hubby who went "i think i might have packed that old one we had.........."

Anywy, Alan wanders over, beer in hand, old  Treg style car receiver in the other and asks if it might get us out of a jam!

The thread needed a bit of work but its on, an we are now in Fitzroy Crossing, and ive an email to see if i can get the bloke a Knighthood!!!!

That is a good result in the end.  I guess for every thieving scumbag, there are generous helpful people.  Wouldnt you have just loved to catch the thief in the act. >:(

Excellent!! He's the sort of bloke you'd like to have at your shoulder, and will likely be a friend forever. :cup: :cup:

You've fallen victim to the scum of the earth, and met one of the truly great ones.

That is absolute crap. There was a rodeo in Fitzroy on the weekend as I was coming through from Balgo on the way home. There were a ton of cars coming back from Tunnel Creek so I expect one of those sh1ts decided it would look good on theirs. Sorry you had to experience that.

Probably thought you'd have to leave the trailer while you went and got a new hitch, therefore the trailers there for the taking......

Either that, or what i find myself being more mindful of, is scumbags doing scumbag crap, just to be a scumbag.
People take stuff, or break stuff, just to cause you grief.

They dont neccesarily need it or want, but just take it so you dont have it.
Damagae it so you cant use it, or just generally do stuff, to ruin your day.

The worst kind.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

I must admit I always take the tow hitch off when at home but I never would have thought to do so whilst on a trip. There seems no end to the depths that this gutter trash element of society will stoop to. It's one thing to rob you in your own home, but to seriously handicap a holiday is beyond description. Rather similar to recent stories of camp site thieving at inskip point. One day this filth will be met by a deeply peeved theft sufferer who will be armed with a baseball bat and a fuming temper to go with it.

Have heard of kids pinching the pin and waiting around the corner to see your CT/caravan come adrift when you leave the camp site but not heard of anyone taking a hitch.  Pretty low act to take it when so far from help.

Wishing much good karma for Alan and some seriously bad karma to the the thieving scumbag.

What's the betting they saw a CT / van they 'liked' with a Tregg hitch and went looking for something to hitch it up with?

There is nothing better than the look on a sad face when you supply them with the replacement for the lost gear . You will know the Karma bus has a spare ticket when you need it later . lts amazing just how short a time you need to carry the spares till its needed .

Not wishing to go off topic, but this risk was one reason I changed to the OzHitch, in that it is much less likely a 'tea leaf' will be able to steal my rig, or have a need for my tongue mount - which most I suspect couldn't even recognise
Even then, the tongue mount end isn't fitted unless I'm on the road.

I had a hitch pin go missing at roper bar camp site..

Very strange for it to just fall out, towed the camper in and a couple of days later i noticed it missing..
Drove and walked around where i had driven over the time we were there, no luck in finding it.

But luckily someone near by used big tent pegs the same size, what are they?? Nearly 20 mm. Huge tent pegs..
He had an angle grinder to cut it to size and shape it a little, and i had a drill to drill in a i hole for a R pin..

Then about 50 to 100kms down the track i found someone with a hitch and not towing a camper so i bought his.. Then i bought a lockable version when back in town..

Yeah, i guess ill be doing that now. Thing is, its a right pain in the ar$e to get the R pin out because Kaymar didnt leavemuch room under andbehind the tow hitch in the Hilux rear step, and getting the pin out is a knuckle busting event if ya dont know how. It wasnt a 5 second job. These people need to be used as live shark or croc bait...... anyway.......lesson:scumbags dont just live in the big cities!

Yep even scumbags in the bush. We went out trail biking from the Thompson Dam wall to come back and find the bike trailer missing which really threw a spanner in the works. Unfortunately when your in a remote area the thieves know they have time or can hear when your coming back to your camp/car...

Or maybe drill the hole out and fit a pad lock......

I always carry a spare hitch and pin, but if someone knocked off the male part of the DO35 I'd be stuffed.

That's a PITA. Glad it all worked out in the end.
Hubby always removes our hitch and locks it away.. It only goes on the vehicle if we need to tow. Regardless of where eva we are.

Geez what a bunch of maggots, but what are the chances of someone having one to lend you  ;D Glad it all worked out though.

I have drilled a hole big enough to put a padlock on mine.

I have Treg u-bracked bolted onto a HR style ball mount with a locked pin.  My concern is that they could unscrew the u-bracket.  Has anyone had this happen?  I don't really want to tack weld the nut onto the bolt.  In the interim, I've tightenned the nut with a 2' spanner as tight as I can get it and have permanent loctite on the thread.  That should slow them down a bit.
