Experience Aboriginal Culture - Kids
« on: July 05, 2013, 09:58:44 PM »
We are in the planning phase of a 6 month trip with my wife an 3 kids... aged 8, 6 and 3. Basically the plan is to travel through Melbourne, Alice, Darwin, Kimberly, WA coast to Perth and back to Melbourne...hopefully visiting many off the beaten track places the tourist buses miss!

I was hoping to find an Aboriginal Community that welcomes city slicker families and share their culture, traditional foods etc with the kids.

Hopefully we will be headed GRR, top end of Tanami, Oodnadatta etc

Have others found any communities that offer this kind of experience?

Only by being invited to the communities, and the people were more than welcoming. I have never just invited my self into the communities, so I think it will be a case of "who you know", but could be wrong.

Tjupurula would be the ideal man to ask but is indisposed at the moment. If you are only in the planning stages of your trip at this stage he should be back soon.

Biridu Community out of Fitzroy Crossing ...Dillon Andrews is your man, started that type of tour with him a few years back now. You can stay on the Community and experience Aboriginal Culture (Top Brooking Gorge  :cup:
).....tell him Brad Bayfield said hello   ;D

Thanks all...yes our planning really is not planning. We prefer to travel and stop at places that takes our fancy as we find them. That way you find some absolute gems.

Anyhow thanks for responses. And Tjupurula..hope you get home soon!
