clearance lights

hi all, hope you are all well,
I have a camper with 2 (50mm x 32 mm ) clearance lights mounted in the top front corners facing forward , they are domed leds so would have some visabilty from the side. Thet are I mtr off ground level , the camper is 1.8 mtrs wide.
QUESTION IS WHAT COLOUR SHOULD / CAN THEY BE ?? as iam towing with a longreach ute they are a bit bright in rear view .

clearence lights have to be amber facing forward and red facing the rear

white lights are on the leading egdes of your trailer facing forward.

Are the white lights that face forward a legal requirement? Towing the new CT at night with a bright LED poking me in the eyes through the side mirrors isn't ideal. I was going to either take them off, or paint over the covers.

yes the white ones can be a pain in the eyes!

Check the regs; I think you will find there is provision for the amber/red one to be sited high-ish, sideways, near the front of the trailer to replace the need for forward facing white ones

yes they are bright bright white, only just below the folded floor , so no chance of going higher,

I had the same problem and was moderately concerned.
As luck would have it though, the globes in the forward lights have blown.................
(I don't think they liked 240v going through them....)

Honestly officer they must have just blown........ :police:

My Jayco doesn't have front white clearance lights, neither did my old camper, although it had small 50 x 25mm white relectors at the front.

Here's a link to the trailer building regs. (Hope it works ;)) It looks like you can omit them if your orange/red clearance lights are toward the front.

If it's only an occasional problem, why not just put a piece of electrical tape
or similar tape over it while traveling ?

yes or blow the bulbs, i just hoped i could find out what was the correct colour was on my camper at 1 mt , might join the line at qld transport to ask .

All vehicles are to have only white or orange front facing lights and you can use either as clearance lights.
