Warranty Issue - Jayco?
« on: May 07, 2013, 11:00:40 AM »
Well, we are now 2 weeks late with the arrival of the new Jayco Swift OB.  The Salesperson we have been dealing with is off sick, and it appears the place falls apart without them there!  Anyway we had a call yesterday from the Service dept, saying they are going through the inspection and they asked the question "Are you having a Fiamma Awning fitted", to my reply "Yes".  The guy says "Ah, we have a problem, we don't have one!".

Now to cut a long story short when we ordered the Jayco we opted for a Fiamma Awning, being the smallest CT in the fleet they said "we don't think it will fit"  Anyway they checked with the planners at the factory they had a measure up and said "sure, no problems, it'll fit". So all systems go, or so we thought.
On speaking to the guy in Service yesterday he said, the factory would not fit a Fiamma to this CT, so it is down to the dealer to fit.  So where is the awning?  if the dealer is meant to be fitting don't you think the factory would have sent the awning up with the CT?  or is that too difficult.  So now it is on order, and even more delay.  >:(   However we have been informed that with the dealer fitting this now it will INVALIDATE our warranty.

Does that mean every Jayco owner that has a Fiamma fitted it invalidates their warranty?

Anyone else come up against this?

I would be making a huge scene, in their showroom, on their busiest day. But first, wait for the sales guy to get back. Don't accept it if you're not 100% happy and insist on wirtten confirmation of anything you think could be disputed by Jayco or the dealer.

One of the advantages of buying a Jayco, according to my FIL, is that there are agents everywhere so you can get warranty/service away from home.

It should make no difference tot he Jayco warranty. My Bed flies and awning are made at Prestige jayco and are not the factory fitted Jayco ones. There is no reasonable reason why they would not warranty your camper. What they will say though as they do with most of their appliances is that you need to go through the manufacturer direct for specific claims.

I was told a similar thing about the roof rack with wind up antenna Jayco wont fit for some reason so if you do fit they wont warranty the roof,I think you'll find its just the roof and the awning they wont cover. There will be an issue of some sort with the awning being mounted on your swift for some reason.

It would probably mean that the fiama awning is no longer covered by warrenty as it is not a reccomended installation

The may be able to argue if the awning was a direct result or contributer to damage they may be able to argue that is not covered but if it has nothing to do with the awning they will have to come up with warrently claim if you make one

Before the glowmesh hits the shagpile and with no disrespect to Big Jules, try the nice way first and don't give yourself an ulcer.
As for the rest i reckon the big fella is 100% correct.

Having said that though, i have been known to carry on like a pork chop. once i've hit a brick wall with a salesperson/police officer/Govt Dept person........ you get the drift.

not good service... the question I have is don't they have the order form that lists the additions??? We went through the order when we picked our new swan up to make sure everything was there.... doesn't instil confidence in the dealer if they have to ask you what is included.....

Thanks all, we will be taking it up at the point of collection, there was no mention when they took our order and we had handed over a nice deposit about invalidating the warranty if you have a Fiamma! .....not impressed to be honest.

Don't worry we won't head away quietly, if that is the case.

Per the Australian Consumer Laws they cannot void the warranty however if there is a failure of the roof which is found to be caused by the awning then yes they can refuse to accept the claim however they must prove that the awning caused the failure, I doubt Jayco would go to that length
I found Jayco to be brilliant when I had a claim with our camper

First off, ring the ACCC and find out what your legal rights are, then you have ammunition to use against them when demanding satisfaction.

Don't deal with anyone but Jaco Management, anyone else and you will just get shafted and stuffed around.

Was it originally in writing that you ordered the awning? If it was included with the order then you should have every right to withdraw from the contract without losing any money, because they have not supplied everything as per the contract.
Let them know that you are thinking of cancelling the order(even if aren't), tell them you want some form of satisfaction, either they fit the awning and warrant it, because this is what was agreed in the first place or they give you compensation for stuffing you around.

Thanks for the info GrameL, no nothing is written on the order and nor were we informedd at that time, it wasn't until we emailed asking about the colour choice a couple of weeks after that we were informed of this, and then again this week when the Service manager said they would be fitting it because of the cock-up.  My argument is, that if it shows as an option WHY is it not covered, if it is factory fitted or dealer fitted.  It is not as if Mr Bodgejob down the road is fitting it.

Nothing is mentioned in the brochure either, it states "Jayco Warranty Program - Australia's most respected warranty offers you 1 year protection on your new Jayco.  We take pride in what we build and want to offer you peace of mind that you are covered by Australiasia's largest dealer and service network stocking an extensive range of parts to ensure that you can focus on the job at hand...having fun"

So I have contacted the ACCC and am waiting to hear back.

Thanks for the advice everyone, much appreciated

Agreed, we had a problem with our swan under warranty and they really went above and beyond to help fix it, both the dealer and the people at Jayco head office management were lovely and very professional. If your not getting the answers you want from the dealer I would be calling Jayco head office.

if the dealer is meant to be fitting don't you think the factory would have sent the awning up with the CT?  or is that too difficult.

No. That would be tacit consent from jayco for the dealer to fit it and hence liability to fix the leaking roof later.

If Jayco took the order and agreed to fit the awning then who they have fit it doesn't matter it's Jayco's problem and warranty

I had a Fiamma (factory fitted) to our Swan when we had it, was no issue at all, we did eventually get rid of the Fiamma and replaced it with an Aussie Traveller ,far better product.

On another note, Our Expanda is 3 yrs old in August, we just got it back after having the roof replaced  "UNDER WARRANTY" due to it starting to leak.

At lot of people pay out on the Jayco product, but I reckon you'd be hard pushed to find another Manufacture that backs their product so far out of warranty, granted some issues shouldn't happen in the first place.

Jayco's warranty attitude was a major reason why I purchased my Swan
