No guarantees and no responsibility taken - but have heard of the following:

If you have gout in your toes, then the following remedy can be used to seek relief. Take one-third cup of ground ginger in a bath tub and soak your affected foot in it for 30 minutes. This will cause you to sweat and uric acid will be eliminated. After this, make sure that you bathe thoroughly or ginger may cause skin irritation after the body dries.

And in a book - "Outback with Jack" written by an old bushie - bathe painful joints with one cup of vinegar and water, boiled up and add a tablespoon of cayenne pepper - let cool to warm before bathing the feet.
This would probably have the same effect as the first one.

Good luck, I know how painful gout can be.

Dad always used Apple Cider Vinegar  and rubbed that into the affected area from a small bowl ...Nanna used this aswell to keep her hands free and moving well enough to croche' and knit  till she was 90..Atable spoon in your food each day is supposed to be good too.

Go and buy a can of cherries from the supermarket and eat the lot it reduces the uric acid level that gives you gout...thats what my doc recommended to me years ago and will give you some relief at least...does for me anyway.

Beer, rum, bourbon...bucket loads of it till you can't feel nothing.  Only temporary relief but then the whole body will ache so you won't feel the gout anyways...... >:D

if you have gout it means that the increased levels of uric acid has formed into crystals and by then it is too late .... I have a bout of it about every 18 months and when i get it i can not walk for at least 4 days and limp for about 10 days mostly hit my ankles and knees.  The last attack I had was about 5 weeks ago had blood test no elevated levels of uric acid, so the text book doctor said I cant have gout, previously i have had blood test with the same results but after taking fluids out of infected joints shows uric crystals, I explained that to the doctor and got the eyes with daggers saying impossible.  Now 5 weeks on I still have pains continuously moving from ankles to toes back to ankles was only bailed up for a few days but in alot of pain since. Now to get to the point you can either live with it if you feel it coming take arthrexlin if you get to it too late its all over you will just have to suffer as there is no cure for uric crystals apart from time . I have heard cherry juice works as well as bi carb soda but only to lower / control the levels of uric acid or you can get some pills from the gout vet which you have to take every morning for ever to control uric acid but not guarranteed to work on every person and if you fail to take them i have heard the gout hits you fast and hard. Once  i am over this attack I am off to the vet to get the pills as 5 weeks is way to long for this kind of pain.
And with people assuming it is booze related are not always correct majority of times it is diet related but it is also from stress or the person is just unlucky their bodies just form to much uric acid. I have triggered it off with booze seafood and all the good but bad foods and i have also been very careful of my diet and drinking 4 ltrs of water a day and still get attacks

Pain is weakness leaving your body... But seriously, it flippen kills. I got it in my big toe last year. I was 29, reasonably fit, and I hardly drink. It doesn't discriminate. Arthrexin tablets were the only thing that would settle it down for me. I feel for you.

Cheers

Avoid tomatoes.

Also, personal experience, tablets from the health food shop: Celery and Juniper (in the same tablet) works a freaking treat for me. Give it a try.

There's also a lot of it up here due to the change of the seasons. The story goes as we come out of the hot - wet people stop drinking as much water as it gets cooler and so allowing the acidity to build up. Plus there is a lot of drinking up here. The DOc here also say use a strong antiflammatory but gain up here we have the highest number of Dialysis Patients in Australia and Voltaren etc hammers your kidneys, it's a tough one for them on what to use.

My advice is drink a lot of water, stay away from the wine and toms as noted above.

Apparently wine is actually good if you have 2 glasses a night, I stick by this rule by haveing haveing two glasses a night but make sure it is out of a glass magnum and tomato are ok if cooked.

My 96 year old grandad has gout.

They breed them tough in the old days, they are of the mindset not to complain. Just soldier on.

After hearing some of the replies,  I couldn't imagine the pain he would be going through.

He thinks it will just get better rather than say he is in pain.
Tough old bugger!!

if you get it to offten like once very month or so look at getting on zilapin somthing like that when you get that right , dosnt matter what you do you will not get an  attack  , what you have to remember each attack is stuffing up your kidneys .

that is what i am doing but can not get on to them until this 5+ week attack disappears = not only kidneys but also premature wear on the joints
