Mudmap 2 App
« on: May 01, 2013, 12:52:10 PM »
Was just tossing up whether to go with the Hema or Mudmap app for the Ipad and see that Mudmap 2 has been released recently. It says it can use other maps such as Hema & Ozi, that would be handy for me as I have Hema maps on a PC and hoping to import these to the Ipad. Has anyone tried Mudmap 2 yet? Its $150 so I want to be sure I can use the Hema maps I already own.

Cheers
Mark

I've got it, still not sure how good it is though and am waiting to show to mate who has surveying and lots of map experience.  It is covered a bit in another topic on here

http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=18263.0 even though it's a Hema topic, MM is also discussed.

It seems to show where i am and has a lot of "map" choices for where you are, from "topo" to "google"

It was $99 on special before easter which is when i picked it up.  If you are not in a hurry to purchase, it seems to go on special every now and then.

My mate rates MudMaps but it seemed to me that one had to buy a lot more maps to get coverage and it is/was a subscription model so you had to keep paying?

Happy to hear different.

Not that i am aware of.  Lots of maps upfront, it's over a gig big and nothing about ongoing payments.  Maybe he has an earlier version?

Dragging up an old thread here, but has anyone got anymore thoughts about Mudmaps vs Hema for the iPad. I'm looking at getting one and Mudmaps is currently on special for $99.99.

Cheers

I have mudmaps 2 and Hema, mudmaps is a good description of there maps, looks like a kid drew them in the mud with a stick!

From my view there is no comparison, Hema is so much better its not funny.

I was actually given the Mudmap 2 app by them so I could do an evaluation on it, firstly it didn't work, even though I was effectively working for them for free getting questions answered was like pulling teeth. On our recent 11000km outback trip we tried using it numerous times but within minutes each time we switched back to Hema.

By the time I had returned from the trip they had also cancelled the account I was to use for providing them feedback, so I don't know why they wasted my time.

Just my 2c. If I could give the app away I would, and wouldn't miss it all.

Cheers Andrew

Ok now I'm confused, that's one vote for each. One thing I'm concerned about is the maps for Tassie... Do they have any as standard or do I then have to purchase them? I mainly want it for tracking where I've been at this stage.
Thanks for the feedback so far and keep it coming

I have had a better experience.  I bought Mud Map 2 a few months ago.  Was tossing up between that and the Hema app.  Took a punt as the TheMap concept seemed interesting, and I also got mixed messages when looking at reviews for the two apps.

Have used MM2 a fair bit, and relied on it on a Corner Country trip last month.  So far it has been faultless and I have no complaints.  Planning routes seems easy but I don't have anything to compare it to.

I've found that the maps provided have been good for my needs, and yes, it does seem to come with Tassie Back Country maps as standard.

I also got it for 99 bucks which made the decision easier.

I actually had/have the original mudmaps app as well. I thought it was pretty good, until I got the Hema which is when I realized how lacking it was. After some feedback on another forum I was asked to evaluate MM2, which really isn't that much different.

In MM if it's a we sprint map then it's around the same quality as Hema, but that's about 1 in five of there maps, the rest are rubbish.

I should point out I am a technophobe and want a plug and play system, if your a techno geek and want to import and convert and do all that other tetchy stuff it might be different, but if I pay $100 plus for an app I just want it to work, which Hema does.

Cheers Andrew
