What's in your camper 'kit'

Hi Everyone

We've just sold our little Jayco pop-top so we can buy a CT.  In preparation for it being picked up by its new owners I was cleaning it out today and re-discovered so many things I'd forgotten we even owned.  I'd have to say at least a third of it isn't needed on most of our trips.  It prompted me to ask this question - what standard items do you have in your camper which stay packed with it all the time, and what items do you pack depending on what type of trip you are doing?

I'd be grateful for some input as I'm sure most people don't carry half the stuff we have been lugging around in the pop-top!  There's got to be a better way, or even just a stock standard inventory.

The time of year and destination are big factors. Our first trip over Christmas school holidays was a 'back in 3 weeks trip'....yeah we came home after 6 weeks (bloody cyclone and work forced us home...and the bank balance lol). It was our first trip away in the CT and I think I did ok packing. A lot of it was buy as we need though. But the way I have it now is there are 2 labled  boxes that live in the CT. Towels box has towels, 12 volt shower, spare lights, little rubber mat things I found for if we're using public showers (showering in thongs for 6 weeks was a bit much lol), spare tea towles, and a spare sleeping bag. Food box had pantry style food, the main lighting (food box comes out first, so handy spot to put the lights), mozzie repellant, and anything else that is needed as soon as you pull up.
For our big trip I had a spare box that we ended up putting all the chrissie presents we received (note to family, cash takes up less space   ), snorkling gear, and our spare good clothes for if we went out  (didn't want them mixed up with travelling clothes). We also had a massive bag that had 2 spare winter blankets. When we got home and repacked, I took out the spare box as it's no longer needed.
The last 2 trips have been music festival trips, both only 4 days of camping. We had the Towels box packed as normal, same as the food box, and the winter blankets were put on the bed (note - Deniliquin get f&cking COLD!).
Next trip is 4 days camping on the river so will work out what is needed between now and then, but think nothing will change.
Best bit of advice from here was take a list, anything you don't use put a mark, and write down anything you needed and didn't have. Oh and Kat's wise words of 'If it doesn't have more then one use, it stays home' rule works well too.

We have 2 modes of camping: powered sites with water & amenities, and bush/beach unserviced camps. The non power/water camps definitely require more gear ie solar panels, porta potti, shower & toilet tent, shower base for keeping feet un-sandy, shovel etc. Otherwise gear is same. Ropes, pegs, kids toys, chairs, collapsable table, clothes line, annex floor matting. List goes on, one of the advantages of wind up trailers, they're more like transforming caravans. A place for most things.

I knew to this style of camping and think that I've done ok with my packing so far although ill revise thy once I get home after the first trip. At this point I've got a box for plates cups saucepans etc which also has the larger utensils and the tea towels etx. I have a smaller box for non perishable food stuffs another for "stuff" which has the mozzie repellent torches pegs fire lighters matches etc. In the process of putting together a linen box then I'm done. I think! Like I said I'll check when we get back from the first trip

Except if we are taking the kayaks, we also need paddles, paddle leashes, seats and life vests.
If not near water, we leave the rods and tackle boxes home.
Otherwise, with the exception of food and clothes, we are ready to go at any time.

Our Camper is always packed, we only add food a few days prior.

We have a clothes box which doubles as the top step into bed. we have a pots box which is the step up to the clothes box.
I have a big drawer down one side of the camper which takes most on the trailer bed ( if has enough room to slide out past the drifta kitchen)  on the other side the cloth box, pot box and the porta potti are stored.  The pot box and portapotti sit on a piece of ply shaped like a "h"that i have some webbing attached to pull out, it also acts as a guide for the large draw so it goes in straight.

The crockery and cutlery are in the drifta kitchen. The torches and solar path lights are in the face wash basin that is stored on top of the pots box
In the large drawer there are the food boxes, the spices/ condiments/ miscellaneous cooking stuff box, the annex walls, kitchen wall, a small box of games and crossword books, a box with insect repellant, citronella candles. a box of 4 towels, a box with dog bedding and towel the first aid kit 2 speakers for the radio and two
tables and a few bits and pieces.  The chairs and rug for the floor of the camper go on top of the tent.

The Solar panel and fridge go in the car and the shower tent goes in the front box.

She also back a bag with linen when we go away so she can put fresh sheets on just before we pack up.

We keep everything packed always, as others have said except for food and clothes.

We have the cutlery & crockery, saucepans and cooking utensils, tea towels and most important of all the coffee.

We travel pretty light as we learnt through over 8 years of tenting it with a trailer I got sick of tying everything down.

The only hting we really overpack is food, always come back with lots but would prefer that to running low.

My motto is "less is More" - keep everything to bare minimum.  Camp Chairs, table, broom, extra tent for kids, sleeping bags, stretcher beds packed on top under cover, tub with power leads, kettle, lights ect in tool box for when power is avail, cooking utensils, plates, cutlery etc permanently in CT - just need to pack fridge with food, clothes and fresh linen into the back of the car before pulling out the driveway!  Unpacking on return is just as easy!!!

Due to still not completely used to the whole camper thing, I still find myself standing around in the shed the night before wondering if I've got everything. Apart from removing food and bedding when we arrive home it's already packed for next time. Love it

Like others, we like the packed and ready approach so you just add fresh food and clothes and drive off.  We mainly do weekends away so may have to review this for a longer trip, but it would just be food and clothes that we'd look at.

Kitchen:  something to eat with, off, drink out of, cook in (ss pots x 3 & CO), season cooked food, comprehensive herb container, the odd tin of something if we are feeling lazy, dish drainer (contains all associated with), sullage bucket, 2 x bendy chopping boards, the usual utensils for smashing / whipping / chopping / skin removal ... you get the idea, a ss bowl (cake mixes, etc), paper towel, pegs, mozzie coils, first aid kit, extinguisher, glad wrap, alum foil, baking paper, led light strip.

Shower:  pop up ensuite (bag also contains 2 x blow up li-lows), bucket, cup, wet pack (1 each his / hers), loo rolls.

Anything that came with the camper (of course) like pegs, poles, ropes / gas bottle / 2 jerry can bins / bedding / clothes bags (his / hers) / pillows / table / chairs.

We also have a camping box for the ute which contains:  2 x solar panels and lead, timber in box, emergency gear (tow ropes / snatch strap etc) / extra canvas for camper / axe / spare loo rolls and paper towel / dunny / dog beds, food, bowls, leads, toys / raincoats / ozpig.

Probably a few other things but I can't think of them now, so I guess they aren't important.

Edit:  Those few other things I couldn't remember are:  Levellers / new alum step / extra long legs - if you own an AS you'll want these at some stage for the hard floor / shower mat / ... to be continued.

Kit_e makes a good point with the pillows.

We just spent a night with no pillows as they got left at home, great way to put a damper on a trip. I will be buying a couple of the inflatable pillows to permanently go in the camper. A good nights sleep is so important (especially for me as I get grumpy very quickly otherwise).

This is our long trip pack.

We have three plastic tubs across the back of the camper - "Safeway", "SanRemo" (probably should be BWS now!) and Kitchen.   The first two get replenished at regular intervals and before we leave home....   The Kitchen box contains cooking utensils/ spare tea towels/ fly netting for over food as prep is occurring, etc etc. 
We carry two buckets.
Porta Potti chemical/napisan etc. 
Annex, big tarp, camp ovens,
Then in the front tool box go the electrics box, levellers, pegs, ropes, jacking plate, spare wheel bearing kit with grease/tools/
hose, etc etc.
Spare Linen box - clean doona cover/sheets/pillow cases/tek towels and polafleece blanket.
Laundry powder/softener/pegs/ and washing machine money in a container live in the "dirty clothes bag" so that we can just pick up the bag and head for a laundry occasionally. (This saves you getting a machine and then realising the soap powder is still in the camper!)
Most of the listed stuff lives in the camper permanently.
We also have a check list which I would attach but just can't find at present.....
Our overnight or quick coupla days is not quite so extensive.

I do go through everything a few days before a big trip just to ensure all we need is there.
