Gas Leakage (HELP)
« on: April 12, 2013, 09:08:38 AM »
Can't find anything in search, so I'm asking.

I have two 4.5 kg gas bottles on my camper, plumed into my pull out stove.

Recently while away, I removed one bottle to use on BBQ, while the other was left for kitchen stove.

When I turned the dual to one bottle, I found that there was still a very small amount if gas coming from the disconnected copper pipe.

Can someone tell me why and how can I fix it. It is a new unit, but a long drive to have repaired if this is what it needs

The valves are generaly not repairable, and legally you cannot change it yourself, but you can order them from many of the online caravan parts suppliers.

Did you try turning it on and off a few times?  Maybe the seal wasn't seated correctly the first time.

. I assume you are referring to the manual change over  on the top of the rego, you will find that when the handle faces the in use bottle then no gas should leak past the handle and escape from the open pigtail pipe, If the handle was turned to face neither of the bottles then when you turn a bottle on then you would get a wisp of gas passing the handle but no more, If the rego continues to leak past the rego thru the open end then i suggest that the manual change over has a leaking seal .If this is the case there are 2 options [1] have the rego change over replaced or replace the rego,or [ 2]buy a 1/4 inverted flared brass plug [usually come with a chain on then that attaches around the rego and not lose when not in use]so as that can be scewed into one side of the change over fitting which is a good safe option
