sleep test?

My sleep test came about after being hospitalised after a stroke in 2009.  The night Sister asked if I had ever had one and suggested it.  Glad I did now.  Apparently after a night on the Bundy the CPAP doesn't stop my snoring ........ I don't hear it .......

My opinion is save the money and just rent a machine for a month - chemists and agents do this........ sadly then buy the machine from US. Dont feel too bad about agent they are doing well @ $500/month for a $2K machine and you have to buy masks etc from them anyway for the trial.
You will need a 3 pin power cord, few $ from electronic type store.

Local pricing from Resmed etc is crazy, even with freight it can be close to half price. Considering they are made here its pretty weak. Obvious they are soaking up any healthcare rebate because they can

Get an Autoset model and there isnt much settings to change and its easy. If your smart you can learn all about this during trial.

Health fund refund? - only available if you buy an Australian model and do the sleep test. $$$ dont balance up.

Your in a strange bed, usually a narrow ****ty rock hard horsepiddle bed with 50000 wires and probes all over you in a typically freezing cold hospital ward, and your  supposed to have a good night sleep.

Can you ask them for a shot of Morphine - that should help

Stilnox is MY friend. 1/2 a 10mg tablet, so 5mg.

When I were a young tacker and going without sleep didn't seem to have too detrimental affect, getting to sleep wasn't ever a problem. But now in my 50's and not able to tolerate being sleep deprived, I get agitated if I don't drop off quickly, so resort to me little white pill.  The only side effect, for me, SNORING. Did you hear that SNORING.

Mrs T told me this morning when I phoned from work (after a 4:30 am alarm that revealed she was not in the bed!) that I out did myself.

Been using a CPAP machine for around 5mths now and no longer wake up hung over.

I take mine away in the truck with me to use as well. If you need it because your on the road, then I would hire it and then you can claim the cost of hire on your tax return, instead of only depreciation.

Sorry mate but obviously  you are NOT a qualified doctor, so don't go spouting this sort of rubbish around           
If you don't have the sleep test you have no idea as to what the settings should be.

Do you even know whether you should have a cpap or vpap pump, how many bpm to set it at IF you can set it at all?

In a years time do you need to change the settings, if so, to what ?

About the only thing you are correct about is the pricing, so DON'T go spouting off about some thing that can have fatal  consequences for people.

I will repeat,
                    IF YOUR MEDICAL PRACTITIONER HAS ADVISED HAVING A SLEEP TEST JUST DO IT!!!!  It's a small price to pay, get your priorities  right and DON'T listen to some dickhead that tells you you can do it yourself

I was fortunate enough to have the test at home, was about 200 bucks, the lady came and hooked me up, went home. I went to sleep. woke up took it off and dropped it back.

Wasn't the most glamorous look but it proved what I already knew, sleep apnea.

I ended up getting a Resmed Autosense 10 apap machine. awesome little unit.

make sure you get one with a humidifier, you will kick yourself if you don't.

Wasn't cheap but you spend a great deal of time asleep it might as well be worth it.

Im currently more alert, I have energy. I have the enthusiasm and motivation to lose some weight more than I have had in years.  5 weeks on and down 12 kgs.

Each to their own, but instead of a groggy fog most days, im back to clear as crystal, wake up refreshed.

After years of being like this, 1700 is small change for the huge gain.

As an alternative to the full-on CPAP machines & similar, you could also try https://www.salinplus.com/.

Not an air-pressure machine as such but works by putting super-fine salt particles into the air, which you then breathe in, & they clear your nose & so on.

My Mrs was always going crook that I was snoring, gasping for breath & so on overnight, which kept her awake, & also meant that I was waking up in the morning feeling exhausted. Had a sleep test that was "inconclusive"

Saw these machines discussed on another forum, thought I'd give it a go & got one last October. Since then, Mrs has commented on me snoring about 4 times , & I also wake up feeling like I've had a good night's sleep

Cost about $160 - $180 & you're supposed to replace the salt pads about every 4 months at about $45 - $50, which I've now about to do as don't think I'm getting the full effect any more

Company also offers a no-questions-asked 60-day full refund - they reckon they refund about 1% of machines sold so there must be a lot a happy users out there May not work in high humidity (+70%) though.

The big machine runs off 240v through a transformer which then puts out 9v @ 0.65A - I'll leave it up to the electrical wizards to work out whether you could adapt it to run off CT 12v power! They also a Mini version available, which I think may be re-chargeable

My old boy is down from the bush, going back and forth to the Prince Charles hospital each day at the moment each day and trying different machines each night.
He bounded out of the cot this morning so I think we might have a winner.

Not tired when driving. Actually the opposite, usually quite aware when driving, its when Im at work it sucks.
Then again, I've never nodded off yet and after drivin interstate for years I'm pretty sure I would have a klms up me sleeve.

Hi, I have been using a cpap for nearly 20 years it has made a big difference to my health, was given the option of a stroke, heart attack or use a cpap. Back then cost was totally covered by Medicare I did 2 tests the first to ascertain that I did have apnea and the second to wok out the pressure required. You are told to treat it like a normal night (good luck with that) while setting up the nurse told me a few stories like the guy who turned up with with his pipe slippers port and pipe and the young bloke who turned up with his girlfriend complete nightie.
My DeVilbiss machine can run off 240 or 12 volts without any adaptors so good for free camping also purchased a heated tube which runs off the same voltages but stops frost bite of the nose in winter. Marty

The total cost was around $2300 for a REMED AIRSENCE 10 which includes 5 yr warranty, free services when required, and you talk to the nurse about how you are going with the treatment, and she does any adjustments as needed

From adverts etc. the mouthguard/dental appliances are almost as expensive as the CPAP machines.
But if it works for you its gotta be an improvement.
Doesn't need any power to work, easy to store/clean.
Also solves the problem of keeping your mouth shut while you sleep.
