53 in about 6 weeks and really happy about it too.

This is the first time ever, my IQ and my age will match up.....how cools that.

Bit of a late bloomer/slow learner, didn't get into camping until the mid 90's.

  • Dont you just love it.
I am 53 and I was brung up with the camping/fishing/4wd thing, had a fairly major accident when I was about 6, carry the scars for life, but did not scare me for life.
I learnt to drive in an old International Scout 4x4 on bush tracks and rough dirt roads around 14 and a half.

Loved it then and still love it now. ;D

cheers duggie

So glad I wasn't the only one who misread it as their age and ticked that they used to hang around with Jimmy Cook ;D

First went camping with my wife shortly after we were married. Then stopped while we had a family and started a business (that whole process took about 30 years!!). Took it up again about 8 years ago when we bought our Subaru Forester. Took two of our 3 sons camping in a tent before we upgraded to a camper trailer. Purchased our first 4x4 (the Prado) in 2008, which we still have.

44 now. When I was fifteen went up the CREB track to Cooktown with my bro in law in a 47 series cruza. Took 12 hours and shredded 2 tyres. I was hooked.

Okay, I am 53.  Without a 4wd we would get nowhere around here where I live.  What you fellas call camping we basically call everyday life most of the tme.  We generally don't use tent ancd the like, just a couple of blankets on the ground near a fire, but then, we are desert black fellas.  Been doing it all out lives.

Got my first 4wd when I was 22, started camping about the same time. I am now 41... Although my wife says I am 19 and several hundred months old...
Pretty sure it's a compliment.... Honest...

55.95 yrs yung.

Did a bit of camping as a kid with school & cubs/scouts. Loved it but the olds weren't into it at all. Threatened to take my boys camping but always allowed work or other things to get in the way until I became a single dad. That wake up call got me of my arse, bought my first 4wd,  a new '96 diesel Pajero and am now on my 4th (1x Pajero, 2 x Grenade pootrols 1 x TTD 200 Series).

We progressed from a garden trailer to carry all the clobber, to an "off road" box trailer to a Kimberley Kamper to the current AOR Quantum.

Couldn't be happier than when camped in the bush, no TV, no traffic noise.  Off to Cape Leveque at end of June!  ;D

Tjupurula I have worked as a nurse in a couple of top end communities, some of you blokes do it tough............I went hunting pigs on foot with a TO in Arnhem land in 2009 and had the legs walked off me by a 75 yo traditional man, and I thought I was pretty fit!!

A question for you.  Do we do it tough, or is it jus that most people are used to all the moden things that we still do not use all that much, or to be more honest, cannot afford?  A lot of black fellas would probably use such things if they could buy them.

I am in my 50's and never had a 4x4 before, the Dmax is our first. The only problem with being old is the brain ian't as good as it used to be and trying to retain all the info is a little hard at times.
But I guess it's like everything else, do it on a regular basis and it soon becomes habit. I just have stop upgrading the Dmax and get out and use it  ;D

63. My first camping memories were @ Hervey Bay in a lean to tent a mate & I bought for equivalent of $10. Swapped it for a box of Lego when the kids came along and now back into it with a CT.

65 for me.
I have been camping all my life. Dad started taking me sailing, fishing and camping as soon as I could walk.
We used to sleep in the car, an old Vanguard, always cook on an open fire, spend the days hiking, swimming or fishing and they were some of the best days of my life.

Cheers

My old man had Vanguards, with the flip up indicators on the centre pillar.
