No scarey pants at all mate , nothing wrong with a safety first approach. :D

There is a turn off about 20ks I think before nolans  you turn left and head back onto main road.

You can then turn right off that main drag and come into nolans from the northern side .

I would go this way if I went up again , even when you drive it and make it you still get a bit of water in .

i'd be curious to know what tyre pressures all those vehicles that get stuck in Nolans are running, would certainly be interesting reading i reckon if it was tabled (yes i know it'll never happen).

Correct, never had an issue with Nolan's but I drop tyres down to 16psi and it was pretty simple.....Sandy bottom, run beach pressures.....:-)

We left the campers at twin falls and did the northern section of the tele track as a day trip. We didn't have any problems with Nolans brook either. From where the Northern section of the tele track rejoins the main road it is only a 40 minute drive back to twin falls. As Teabag said let your tyres down to beach pressures. Walk across it as well before hand and have a plan of your route across. Make sure you've also got snatch straps etc hooked up ready to go so if you need to be recovered it can happen quickly. And importantly kick the misses out, make her walk across with the camera so she can take so good photos.

I have done Nolan's crossing 5 times. Every time it varies in depth. As mentioned safety first all times.
Some times crossing it on the left is best other times crossing on the right is the best option.

It is best crossing it, if you can, before it gets churned on the sandy bottom.

If you want to bypass it take the turn, which is sign posted, just after SAMs creek which will take you to the northern bypass. It's about 11 klms from the turn off to that road.

I went up to Nolans last year, with a 12month old car I just don't see the risk being worth it.  We sat on the banks having lunch and watched others drown their cars.  We took the bypass after Sams ck, good easy well defined track.
I had the same thoughts, prior to the cape, so many stories and so many YouTube clips.
What I can say is, 99% of all that is self inflicted.  Walk and assess every crossing, and include the exits, tyre pressures, there's heaps of grip so no need to Cain it.
The Cape (OTT) is not isolated, it is not a remote area, it is not difficult 4WD, people break down because they go too fast or didn't have a look first.

We took the bypass mentioned by others. Came back to the northern side of Nolans and spent two nights and a day watching everyone else cross Nolans. A very good camping area on the northern side of Nolans and a great creek to swim in when vehicles aren't crossing.

We and (SteveandViv) left the CT at Sams Creek and did a run up to Nolans. We walked the creek and found best entry to cross.  You have to be confident, set up your water blind,  but as Teabag and few have said, drop your preasures and all will be good. No water in our vehicle (Patrol).

Early May 2012. I did it. No dramas.

I spoke to the owner of bramwell junction and asked how to do it.

I did everything he said and got through.

Tyres at 16 PSI - cruiser weight approx 3.5 tonne. So 16 was pretty low. Tyre pressures dropped when cold as well.

Our campers were left behind at camp as well so we could play without them. We weren't prepared to risk drowning them, especially since one of our group had had the door ripped off his back at Palm Creek so he'd have had an instant waterbed.

I think luck may have had something to do with it the day we did it. Our guys did walk it and work out the best line at the time, and we also dropped our tyres to 16psi. The guys also took into account the helpful advice from Symon and the Myswag peanut gallery who were camped there as they'd been watching others attempt it all day.

We actually got 8 cars through together one after another, 4 in our group and 4 from another. We were amazed how firm the sand stayed while we all crossed. We did take a while to procrastinate first though. The guys set out with Nolans as their goal, but when that little stretch of water actually sits before you, all the 'what ifs' start running through your head competing with the adrenalin racing through your body. It's not until your tyres are safely up on the sand on the opposite bank that you can take a breath and 'let go of the seat covers'. It could very easily have gone very wrong for any one of us. Hindsight is definitely a great thing.

We all made it, and none of us regretted having done it for one minute, however it wasn't totally without cost though...we did lose our air conditioner for the rest of the trip (and trust me, it's the one thing you'll really want working up there) and we temporarily lost our UHF radio. We've since remembered to turn it off when doing deep water crossings.

If you do still want to go to the southern side of Nolans Brook just for a look, you have to go past Sam Creek and the bypass track, then through Mistake, Cannibal, Cypress and Logan Creeks, but they're generally firm based and easy if you take your time. Logan's is the only one of these that may pose a problem, and you do need to walk this one. If you don't like the look of it, you can always back track to the bypass and go around.

We drove Nolan's with as many have said beach pressures with camper in tow. Not a drop of water in the car or camper. We had several with us that we're not super experienced 4 wders so did a controlled pull through with the snatch strap attached with both vehicles driving worked well that's always an option. We were heckled by certain people non qlders for taking our time in setting up. Don't let anyone get in your way of safety first with well in excess of 100k of equipment I will take as much time as I need to and so should you. Good luck I will drive it again next time as well.

Do your research and vehicle prep ..... Then decide when you have walked the crossing if your going to do it :) great feeling making it to the other side. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
