What annoys you about your Kimberley Kamper?

Now don't get me wrong, I love my KK, but there are a few things that frustrate me. Here is my list:

1) setting up the ensuite, especially putting the floor in.
2) the location of the hand pump tap next to the gas bottle, difficult to access without opening the gull wing and removing the canvas cover is a pain,
3) the lack of a draining plug on the front water tank

First world problems....

Gee, you must be hard to please  ;D ;D ;D

1) We don't have a KK but have an ensuite.  We don't use the ensuite floor but instead use four of those intelocking rubber mats.
2) can you move it?
3) Have often do you need to drain your tank?  Either only use treated water to fill it or buy yourself a filter to filter the water as you fill the tank?  No other reason to drain a tank. Or am I missing something?

Hi KB

I'd like to drain the front tank to save weight on the trip home from camping. It's an easy mod to do, but haven't got round to it.

Basel,

The only thing that anoys me about our KK is the idiot putting it up. Everything that has gone wrong with the Kamper has been my fault.

I agree the front water pump is not too convienient. Never tried to setup the ensuite and don't plan on doing so, it stays at home along with the canvas skirts.

Weight! Mainly the down weight of the drawbar........and cost, less cost = more toys!  ;D

I put an elbow piece then a gate valve onto the drain plug of the front tank. Also plumbed both tanks  together but with an isolator valve so it's either one or two tanks.

Front tap position is awkward - I've got a short length of clear tubing that is a tight fit onto the tap - a lot easier to fill the billy or kettle.

What annoys me....not much. 
1. The jockey wheel goes flat at home, but that's not the KK's fault. 
2. I don't use it enough
3. The awning can be a pain to erect, but I thank the lovely bloke we bought it from for leaving a step ladder for it!

I love my KK- it's an oldie but a goodie, and was nice and cheap  8)

I had 2 KK's and used the ensuite approx. 5 times out of over 100 trips.....I was/is basically too lazy to put it up..

Front water tap....never used it....as it had the canvas cover over it, couldn't be bothered taking it off to use the tap.....I used to have a jerry at the back on a swingaway with a tap on it....far more easier..

I dont have any complaints about mine either. Like gronk I've never bothered taking the canvass off the front tap so have no idea if it even works.

I would like to use it more often, but I have a child that needs to go to school as well.

Nothing ;D No camper is perfect, but our KK is as close as I could get IMO. The ensuite only gets used if we stay somewhere for a while so setting it up doesn't bother me, it's not a big price to pay for a hot shower. I always drain the front tank first, it lowers the drawbar weight a little bit. I have never used the tap at the front either, but a better fitting cover would be good if I did use it.

Ours is 10 years old, and still going strong. We just love it.



Doesn't have a front water tank or an ensuite, so don't have to worry. Love the front tap, although you can get covered in dust and mud from the stone-guard when using it.

The thing that annoys me the most is that it came with override disc brakes. They work well in the outback, but can really be lacking in muddy high country. Would love to be able to fit their 'electronic' brake upgrade, but the dealers seem to be reluctant to do it and the cost is huge. Oh well.

This would be a great thread for the manufacturers to read though ... helps them to improve the design if they know what bugs users about their campers.

The only difference between the two are what suits you. Clearly they have both stood the test of time. On any camper there will be things you might want to change, I know this is how the KK's have evolved and I bet it would be the same for AS.

I will admit the hand pump can be akward, but for me as I get up earlier then everyone else I love being able to fill the kettle without waking people up with the water pump plus if you need access to water during transit you don't have open anything up.

We wanted the two tanks which is one of the big reasons we went with the KK. Spoke to AS and to put on a second tank you would have to put the tyre on a swing away. This would have made it much more expensive plus the AS guy at the show, told us unknowingly that he was not a fan of the swing away as it covers you in dirt opening it if you need something from the underbed storage during transit (He kind of talked himself out of the sale). The funny thing was the first person we spoke to at KK was also not a fan of the swing away either lucky for them though you can half both tanks and spare underneath.

The closest thing to an annoyance I can think of is trying to read the inside switch panel which is located on the side under the bed, especially in the dark. When you remember what is where you can do it by feel though.
I know it's off topic, but one reason I chose the KK was the option of electric disk breaks. I can't understand why so few of the more expensive campers don't have this option  ???
