Maxtrax on special !?!
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:00:54 AM »
In preparation for out Easter trip to Fraser Island, I lashed out and purchased a bright and shiny pair of Maxtrax to mount on the roof rack of the Prado.

Paid full RRP......

This is a sure indication that they will be on sale at BCF for much less in a week or two............

We'll be needing a second set soon, I'll keep my eye out then ;D

Whatever you paid for them, they're worth their weight in gold on Fraser. Even if you never use them on yourself, they're fantastic for unbogging stuck backpackers blocking your path. Have a great trip!

$265 at Supercheap
http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Maxtrax-Recovery-Tracks-Pair.aspx?pid=203489#Cross

I think Supercheap, BCF and Rays Outdoors are owned by the same mob.

Never seen them that cheap. And that is well below cost. More likely to be Treds at that price.

Wolf 4x4 are selling Maxtrax for $245 at the Brisbane 4x4 show ;)

How do the cheaper ones (eg TRED) compare to the Max Trax. The TRED brand are $199 for the 1100 mm and $179 for the 800mm at SCA and BCF at the moment. Also is it better to get the longer ones?

Sigh....

(Self justification) it would have cost me more than that if I went to the 4x4 show by the time I pay for parking, entry, Dagwood dogs, impulse honda generator purchase, more camping equipment that would sit unused in the camper, hot chips Etc. etc.

You always go to the Tred Facebook page and submit a photo for a chance to win a pair, I have a pair of Treds and they work great, although I didn't win them.

... for a large chunk of plastic that you will use once every 5 years, I think the cheaper ones would be the go.

Maxtrax is Aussie owned! Support a Aussie company

They are really cheap insurance to protect a really valuable asset so RRP is cheap even if you only use them once

Well said - here, here!

(I have the genuine article and they have saved my bacon on more than a few occasions!)

I agree - support the local company - or it will go the same way as Rosella, Speedo and a few other icons in recent years!

MaxTrax or the Big Jules product - same applies! Support the local guys...

Couldn't agree more regarding supporting Aussie companies and Aussie made.  According to their packaging The TRED brand are Aussie owned and made.  And like a lot of things, when someone comes up with a good idea (ie Max Trax) lots of people copy it, sometimes making it better and/ or cheaper, so the original has to make improvements in their design or drop their prices but they can't rest on being the 'original' forever.  Look how many brands of everything else there is. It's all about competition.  I don't know if Max trax or TRED or some other brand is the best, but TRED was within my price range, so I picked up a pair today at SCA.

Hope I never need them, but they are cheap insurance, and cheaper than a winch as well :)

Any of these are worth the money; especially if you're in sand on your own. When recovering with a camper on the back four tracks is definitely better than a single pair.

The best Ive seen Genuine MAxtrax for was when SCA had 25% off Store wide (and it didnt exclude Maxtrax) a
making them $224.25 (rrp $299). I was spewing becuase I'd brought them from SCA a few weeks earlier for $245! Couldnt come at the $299, but$245 seemed almost palettable, and $225 would have been much better. But who's gonna care what you paidf when its you, a big hole in the sand  and an incoming tide!
