The only Gentle Annie I know is the road from Taihape to Napier. Didn't see a camp ground though.  >:D

yep just down the road from home...........its basic but comfortable, the beaches got washed out with the floods a couple of years ago, so not as swim friendly as it was, fishing is ok.

There's a free camp at Edi that was nice. Haven't been to Gentle Annie to stay but my aunt lives in Whitfield so we often go down there when visiting as it's a pretty spot. I can't comment on the facilities etc. as we haven't stayed there (we chose to freecamp instead of pay for a campsite).

Gentle Annie is a nice spot.  I'd go there over Edi cutting, as every time I drive past the cutting there are more tree branches down.  A work collegue has recently returned from Gentle Annie and loved it.

I'd go for it.

We are going !! It's positive !!  ;D ;D
So who else wants to join us around the camp fire, I think Mace and Speeway maybe, GGpatrol is checking if he's allowed  >:D   Yer all welcome.
There is fishing and swimming in the river, several wineries within staggering distance, and its dog friendly $20 a night for 2 (unpowered) hot showers
C'mon JUST DO IT

Yep stayed there about 5 times and absolutly loved it.

Pick up fire wood on the way in
Try to get away early as it is first in best dressed
There are 2 camping areas take the overflow area it is much quiter (we have had it to ourselves) and it is only a 30 second walk to the toilet. It is not powered is the only thing the main camp area has powerd sites.

Pack some warm clothes the temp seems to drop quite dramatically there over night

If the weather still permits over there buy yourself a cheap ski biskit for the river it is fun

If you want to spend a day floating downstream, I'll pick you up at my place and drive you back!  30 deg days, 15 deg nights forecast all week.  Will probably drop in for a visit.  :D

The camp ground is really nice, sensational King Parrots at 2 metres, dogs are allowed, the owners dog just roams the whole park. We asked for an unpowered site, but the owners told us there was going to be 30 school kids there on Thursday night and we could have a powered site at the same rate of $20 p/n which was good. You can buy fire wood from them too, $10.00  for a wheel barrow full.A couple of girls camped near us and 1 of them bought some, she said she knew how to stack a barrow, that was an understatement, she had it stacked 2 feet high above the sides, I don't think I could have moved it :D
The toilets/showers could have been a bit cleaner.
The flies were really really really really bad probably something to do with the adjoining dairy farms .
The river is very low and warm atm, so fishing is a non event but good for swimming.
Very peacefull and quiet, no yahoos,no loud music and NO trail bikes.
I rate it 6/10 as it is, spotless toilets etc 8/10
Would I go there again, probably.
Hope this is helpfull if you're planning on going there
cheers Keith

ps. if it's really hot, take a chair and a bottle of wine, go sit in the river under the bridge  :cup:
