I have been working on a new project for a while now and brother John ( Jclures ) has made up a plug and play loom for this project. This took some time as John wanted to be able to plug in the GM TECH 2 SCAN TOOL and have the engine diagnostic display up and working.

I came across a VX SS Commodore as a wreck and bought it some time ago and when I fitted a VR Commodore 4.9 litre V8 into my son in laws GQ Nissan Wagon last year, I inherited  a fairly tidy VR Commodore ute.

So I started a new project, LS1 5.7 litre V8 powered VR Commodore, when finished the ute will become my daily drive and at times the tug for my Trackabout Camp Trailer.



LS1 ready to fit in the ute





Engine attached to the overhead gantry, up and away.



Going Going



Gone





LS1 5.7 Litre Engine and 4 Speed auto gearbox bolted up into the VR Commodore ute.

Now the fun begins with the fitting of everything else.

I have swapped many engines in my time but never installed one up through the bottom.

Still in the process of reorganising, cleaning and changing the whole workshop around.

Yesty I bought a garden tool hanging tool, so I finally have them sorted out and looking tidy. Almost.

Today its the paint and Oil n grease sections.

dunno where to put my muddies though, they are a pain, might have to throw them out... hahahahha No way..

Right hole just different way of doing things, this style of engine fittment is quite common with commodores as the K-frame ,steering ,engine and gearbox are all bolted up and it it a straight lift, not trying to angle the engine/gear box in. Plus I was not sure of the fit and by doing it this way I had better control and vision of the install.

Works for me. ;D

St earthed changing over the old Narva tail lights on the Heaslip for the new LED Narva version.

Almost plug and play, just a different location for the hole to feed through the wires.

Had to drill out the rivets attaching the internal skin to the drop down tail gate, so as to fit the wires for the tail lights.

Discovered a fair bit of rust on the  inside of the outside skin and on the bottom cross member of the tail gate.  No doubt due to continual condensation, there was even some in there today. Nothing entirely unexpected given the age of my trusty home.

Anyway, will do a door frame repair and paint the inside with white gal primer after Easter.  Might also enclose some packs of silica To absorb moisture from the air.  Anyway, all good for the moment.

I have nearly finished the storage room and moving all my benches around to free up a shed bay to allow me to work on trailers etc without having to put my car out all the time.

Changed the drivers door of the wifes VZ commodore.

Ya have to change the doors every 50,000 kms, is that right?
