bit of banter is a good way of keeping those posts bumped to the top.

I'd much rather contribute to banter( even if it's all rubbish) than read

As long as it contributes to the thread and helps out other buyers - then I see no problems.

I also think it is encouraging to see others posting about your item in a positive way.... I hate selling, but it makes me feel better when you get a post about your item, even if it is only encouragement.

Agree with Sschmez.   Sometimes can keep it bumped and provide interest.

The part I find humorous is, some here in this thread are very guilty of what is laid in original post. So, I find it quite hypocritical to the point of humorous........:-)

True that I will put my hand up and wear one on the chin ;D ;D ;D

I guess when you see that nobody else is bothering with no ill effect then you follow suit. not an excuse I know, but hopefully a mitigating circumstance during sentencing ..LOL

I'm intrigued now.......

What thread are you referring to?
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Along with that, how about deleting threads that refuse to use the template?

Some ads are just impossible to read or make heads nor tails of.

We implemented this at Patrol4x4.com a few months back and one of our mods has been totally ruthless with the razor - result, our classifieds are actually useable again.

Agree - one of the other sites I belong to has a moderator purely for the For Sale section and every post (from the ad itself to all the comments) must be approved.

For a forum as active as this one, we may need a group of FS mods?  :police:

Just my 2c worth.  I'm happy for somebody to get on here and for their first, and maybe only, post to be in the classified sections.  I love looking at the classifieds and would hate to miss a bargain just for a "minimum number of posts before listing a for sale advert" rule.  But it may be clogging the server and the administrators may need such a rule to address this issue and I'm not going to argue with that.

that's been the outcome of this same discussion 500 times in the past..

My only additions would be

No Template - Thread deleted. Makes sure that all the info there.

No Contact/Mobile number - Thread deleted. People post up then piss off never to return and answer questions.

No ability to reply to the for sale thread: All to be done Via PM.. If the seller wants to update the ad with more info, he can. This works well on other forums.

All posts automatically deleted after 45 Days. Keeps it up to date.

Max of 4 Bumps before thread deleted and you have to resubmit. Keeps it tidy and relevant.

Theres no need for a special moderator.

By template I hope you mean all relevant details INCLUDING PICTURES. If you really want to sell something put some effort in. Loading pics takes about 1minute and thats working of a phone.

Well, not owning a mobile counts me out of every placing an AD in the Classifieds.

Your right, no need for a special mod, if you see a post that doesn't comply or is inappropriate, hit the "Report to moderator"  tag at the bottom of the post. It will get dealt with as soon as a mod is alerted to the post.
Simple, the jobs done  ;D

Why do you have to have a contact phone number, you can PM for further info. I for one would be reluctant to splash my phone number about....Getting a little pedantic and over the top Ino..

I agree Paul, Most people will have a email address and all will have PM so why do you need a mobile No or Land line contact posted on the forum.  Contact Numbers can be exchanged at the seller/purchasers discretion. Ebay and the likes do not require a Contact number to be displayed

Some like their privacy.

As I see it, there are regularly things put up for sale that end up with 10 questions, but the owner never replies, or comes back.
People PM them, and you see I've PM'ed you but no reply, or post up "is this still forsale"?

They surf the googles looking for forums and places to post their item (this goes for anything, camera, trains, bikes, boat forums) posts it, and goes away.
They would never know what websites they have uploaded them.

I just see it as a courtesy. Twas just a thought that's all. :)

PS, One more thing

MARK IT AS SOLD WHEN ITS GONE. which the 1 post member who sold it on one of 54 other forums wont do :(

Only problem I can see with the for sales area is inappropriate posts in others
threads / adds, report to mod takes care of that, but those people guilty of this
should learn to self discipline them selves.
Or maybe it's just post whoring, having to have an opinion on everything.
