For Sale ads etiquette
« on: February 24, 2013, 03:53:50 PM »
Can I suggest we implement an etiquette system in the for sale section. If you are not interested in buying the item for sale and have nothing of value to add then don't post. If you are asking a genuine question then post. The general section is for banter not the for sale ads.

First up, I agree with you totally, D4D.

I believe this idea has been mooted a few times but sort of falls by the way-side after a few posts.

Maybe a specialised For Sale Moderator? If people aren't happy with comments, can request they be removed?

Maybe no posts can be made in a for sale thread except by the original poster? Any comms will be done only by PM?

Prefer the first idea, with a mod.

I am quite happy to monitor the classifieds and generally clean them up as needed. Please shoot me a PM if you find something that does not suit your advertised item

Agree, but can BHG's items be exempt?  8)

On topic.(sorta).

For Vehicles and CT's, how about a $10 fee?  This is done on other forums (CTA). Would assist with  forum running costs.

Along with that, how about deleting threads that refuse to use the template?

Some ads are just impossible to read or make heads nor tails of.

Whatever the mods and admin decide for the new rules/etiquette, don't forget to add them to the sticky about the thread rules.  No one can complain then if they are moderated.

There is adequate direction for placing an advert in each section sticky. As for inappropriate posts in the classifieds or any section for that matter, the correct course of action is to report to moderator and it will be sorted.

I can cut and paste the template into its own sticky post I guess.

I think the template could use a tweak to read a bit better.

Asking questions should be fine ......

Sometimes read the classifieds to get a feel for whatprices are, what's on offer etc.

Only having the seller posting wouldn't be of any benefit.

If a member has a rude comment, moderate it and explain why.

If a seller goes outside the general rule, hold it until the ad can be posted in a proper fashion.

We're all adults and of a sound disposition, surely we can all do the right thing ........
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

The part I find humorous is, some here in this thread are very guilty of what is laid in original post. So, I find it quite hypocritical to the point of humorous........:-)

How about the possibility (not sure if it can be done) of not allowing an ad to be placed until the OP has a minimum number of posts in the forum's general sections?

Nothing worse than someone who joins to reach their target audience then either forgets their creds, or could not be bothered checking in again.

Bingo. I hate that.
Also another thing that gets my goat is a lot of new members don't post an introduction. I have banged on about this before but some common courtesy with an intro instead of jumping straight into flogging something off or wanting help for a problem. We are a friendly (usually) bunch.
Another forum I am a member of you can't post anything until you post in the introduction thread and can't post a for sale ad until it is approved by a moderator. I suspect this creates a lot of work approving posts and our mods and admin probably have a lot to do already along with their normal life. Maybe new positions can be created for these 2 roles. Just a suggestion.

Yes!

Questions about items are fine to post in a thread.

Criticisms are not.

If you don't like a post, report it and we'll have a look at it.
