Customline Tropical Roof
« on: February 19, 2013, 05:49:05 PM »

Hi I have a tropical roof for my camper but never used it yet. In the manual for the Customline it says it shouldn't be used in windy conditions. Can anyone say how windy it needs to be? Has anyone saw one that has ripped a tent?

Cheers,
James

On our last trip in January, it blew a gale one night.  I mean really blew.  Not much rain though.  I had to get up at 3am to put some pegs in the corners of the main tent as the bottom of the tent was moving sideways.  I have never had to do that before.  At least three caravan annexes were damaged and a couple of gazebos were destroyed.   Lots of folks were up whacking in extra pegs to stop their tents blowing away.  A sleepless few hours.

Now we have a 12' Customline with tropical roof and we had no problems.  I use a rope on the end over the bed and a pole and rope on the end over the tent to keep the tropical roof off the tent roof.

If you are that concerned, I'd speak with customline themselves to get the word from the horses.

But like KB, I've had ours out on some windy nights in Robe, HCountry and Fraser Is, without an issue.

YMMV

Thank you for the replies. I will put it on the next trip away. Do both of you keep it on when you pack away?

Cheers

Yeah, I leave it on all the time.  Also leave the two ropes attached.

Same.
Mine is mounted permanently with buckles, and only has 1 rope per end to extend it.
