opinions on Drifta????
« on: February 10, 2013, 11:27:54 AM »
First up, I love the Drifta products. Luke is great to deal with and honestly I think its a fantastic company.
They go out of the way to help customers and the after sales service that I received so far is second to none.

A bit of background on my Drifta experience. I used to use a Drifta 100 whilst tent camping and I couldn't fault it. Very strong, easy to use and still looked as good as day one a few years later.
Much better than anything else I had used up till then.
The new (to me) camper has a Drifta in it and is the same as a mates one which I use ALLOT lol. I have emailed Luke and asked the best way to proceed with the new camper in regards to the kitchen as I want the extra bench space of some of his other models. I got a reply back and as expected very friendly and helpful. (just waiting on picking up the camper to get the dimensions for him)

I have never heard anything BAD about Drifta products, Luke or the company in general and I think that is great.
I Figured this forum probably has the greatest concentration of Drifta uses and I am just wondering if anyone has had a bad experience or anything negative to say?

Honestly Im kinda not expecting any and will continue to refer people to Luke and Drifta till the cows come home, but in fairness I would like to hear if someone has and how it was resolved?
Anyway im off to peruse the Drifta website to dream about my new kitchen  :cup:

Cheers

My experience was the same as yours. Simply spot on.

If only every retailer was this easy to deal with.

I love those Drifta stand alone kitchens etc, before i knew about them i purchased to throw in the back of the Commodore an identical fold up stand alone kitchen from one of the camping stores still have it and when we had to get to Darwin and back for the birth of grandson we set this up each night it actually just unfolds to the same as what the Drifta is,well the amount of people that commented on it was amazing so i can see why the Driftas are so popular as it is a good design and very well made and a plus for us if i want anything from them down the track for the Ct they are an hr away.

The only thing I had was when I emailed Luke regarding making a box for me , he put me through to his assistant Mark. I emailed dimensions to Mark but never received a reply , so I got a local place to cut the timber and I did the rest.

Mark did reply a few months later. I suppose these things happen.

I know what you mean. When I emailed Luke, It took about a week to get a reply.
I just put it down to the fact he was making cool stuff and was a little to busy to reply to the hundreds of emails he gets a day lol
Although a couple of months was a bit rough, did you phone to check up on it? or was it all by email?

It was by email to Mark Beech. But in the end it all worried out. Apparently my email reply went to his spam box.

They make great gear , don't get me wrong but when I need a box made for the back of the camper I will get the timber Pre cut from here in Cairns and do it my self. A lot cheaper .

It might just be me but isn't trying to dig up dirt on what is obviously a well run business, supplying a great product going to extremes?
IMO if people were having problems there'd already be threads on here about it. It's tough enough these days to run a business without people trying to find negatives.

Apologies I was just answering a question with an honest reply. I have no problems with their product, in fact I was the first person to install a drifta kitchen on a trackabout camper by using Luke's brother in Mission Beach. This got John at Trackabout years ago using them.

I guess when you put it that way it does sound a bit rough. That was not my intention at all.
Im the first one to put Drifta up on a pedastool and i dont have any thing negative to say about them.
It is more out of interest than anything. As stated im not expecting anyone to come up with a horror story.
Luke has been around for awhile now and has earned the respect of allot of people with his products. But more importantly with how he runs his company and how he deals with customers.
Not everyone will agree that they like strawberry ice cream, as everyone has different expectations and opinions.
I guess why im interested to hear others opinions is more based on the fact that i dont know Luke personally and that whilst i have used and owned Drifta products and will continue to do my own experience is limited compared to other people out there.
In this day and age its awesome that a company such as Drifta can be where they are and continue to grow.

Hi evolution.
I have only positive things to say about my dealings with Drifta. Luke does say on his website that if you don't get a reply from him, to send it again. He gets a lot of general questions that take ages to respond to.

My camper came with a Drifta tailgate kitchen (DSO), that I converted to a slide out and bought the storage box with drawers at the end. He/Mark triple checked me with my measurements and when the gear arrived he had made changes to what I sent him. He had predicted a problem in the conversion (the space needed between kitchen and storage box due to the panel with the legs that slides onto the face of the kitchen) and made the storage box 30mm narrower and supplied a packer to separate the box from from the kitchen. He didn't inform me of his decision. He was just being efficient with his time.

The kitchen and storage box fits perfectly. When it was all said and done I realized that the narrower box was a perfect fit for my table. I am very pleased with the help and the products he gave.

Can't fault Drifta.  Wish I got the same level of service from some other companies.  I hope to personally meet Luke one day so I can shake his hand.  He sounds like a top bloke.

Sure, i had one or two little probs with the products... they were resolved by drifta quickly and with no questions asked.

Excellent product at an excellent price... awesome customer service.
I WILL be buying again!

Dropped my ct to them on a Sunday (prearranged) and had kitchen and 2 x side drawers fitted during the week. Rang thursday and Luke said he thought they had it for 2 weeks, not 1, but they would make sure it was ready. They got it sorted by the Saturday for a 1 week turn-around.

A few months later (pre-xmas) i ordered another drawer for the rear of the camper. Sent via freight and packed so it could handle a nuclear blast in transit and remain intact for delivery!

Great products I have ended up with and I would definitely use them next time. It's simple, rock solid construction and personal service you get from Drifta. Keep in mind that Email has it's flaws. If there's a question you have then give them a ring and talk to them if email hasn't got you an answer.

I'd also add that you should expect they will be very busy at anytime. Get organised and book your job in with them in advance. This will save missing out on using your new Drifta gear on your next trip!

As everyone has said a great product we got the tail gate kitchen as that was the one we could fit in I would of loved the slide out one for bench space so would be interested to hear what you end up doing to get the extra bench.  Only have 9ft tent though we dont have a lot of space under awning.  We lashed out and got the bed table and bed head with lights as if there is a power option for them I like to read at bed.  As others have said ours was freighted and packed so well.  BF dealt with Luke and said he was fabulous all by email and the odd delayed reply but not huge amount of time for how busy and how many emails they would get.  Hope the new camper goes well

Like most others I have nothing but awesome things to say about Drifta. Currently do not own one (I bought a jayco) but used to have one of the older 200's (built in 2002)

I thought even though every one has praised Drifta and Luke I would add my story.

I bought it second hand but soon discover that I was missing some pins.. So I emailed Luke, told him the story of how I got it and gave him the serial number. I said in my email 'please let me know how much they are'

Next thing I know, I have an email back from Luke saying its good to know 'one of the old girls' is still around and that he would sort out some pins.

Then a large envelope arrived to my work about a week later ( I am in Wait Awhile after all) with the pins AND 2 stubby holders...

Now some might say, big deal, you got some stubby holders and a could of free pins... But consider this.. Luke had built (himself at that point) this kitchen some 10 years prior.. Sold it to someone for a modest sum (in my opinion) and made THAT customer happy.. He owed me nothing, I had not paid him a cent, but he was more than happy to look after me and provide me with service that you don't even get out of some people that you DO give money to...

This story, combined with the AWESOME products that Luke makes and sells is the reason that I do not hesitate for a moment to recommend Drifta. I don't currently have a need for anything that Drifta makes, but when I do that is where my money will go!

I'm glad everyone seems to have had the same sort of experience that I have.
Bmo I have heard similar from others as well, its brilliant really. I mean you can't go into Holden with a vs and walk out with free hinge pins and stubby holders.  ;D
Its not very often that you hear of a company that has no one with anything bad to say.

Yet another only positive response.

The wind came up suddenly and blew our Drifta standalone over, not just on the front of it, it ended up doing a full 180.

No damage at all, even the hand pump was undamaged.

My old van I fitted out myself........

My next new van, Drifts is going to fit it out with a combination of different ideas I have put together and what they currnelty offer.

My only negative of drifta, they can't fit it out!!!!!!!!

....... not entirely their fault though, I have to afford to buy the new van first, ..... I'm working on it,and when I do, drifts will fit it out!
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

I bought a Drifta tailgate kitchen for my camper 5 years ago. Decided recently to change over to a pull-out kitchen with the large pullout drawer. Went up to Drifta to discuss with Luke and get him to measure up. I had assumed I would have to sell the old kitchen privately, but Luke offered me a trade-in. Great deal so I accepted, he then arranged to remove the old kitchen and install the new. Everything happened on time. Quality of the new gear is excellent.

Lol maybe that's why you barely ever see second hand drifts products on the market. I didn't even advertise my 100. It went to a mate the day I decided to sell it.   :cup:

We have a set of Drifta Drawers with table and Fridge box in our 80, and a slide out kitchen in the CT.

I took the 80 up to the factory and Luke personnally measured it up, when I picked it up it was mm perfect, been in the truck 3 years now with no issues, Kitchen the same 2 years old and still perfect.

I recommend Drifta to anyone asking about drawer systems etc, the after sales service is also second to non, we ordered an extra drawer for the kitchen, picked it up late one Friday on the way through Gloucester, someone had stayed over and they even fitted it and made sure everything was good, charged us 20 bucks.

Luke deserves all his success, he took a brilliantly simple idea and made a great company from it, other businesses could learn a lot from Luke Sutton.

It's not very often that you'll never here a bad word about a business.  Luke and the team at Drifta are spot on with their business, could not fault their kitchen or the service in getting it made.
