need some advice please guys and gals.
« on: February 07, 2013, 10:32:57 PM »
Ok, so I am looking to purchase something in Brisbane. I live in Wodonga on the Victorian border.
My dilemma is that it would need to be inspected before any cash is handed over to the seller to make sure  it is what he says it is.
I have two options available to me, one is to buy sight unseen (or ask a swagger to check it for me) and get him to drop it at a transport depot, which the seller is more than happy to do.
If I do it that way it will get transported to Sydney for $400 and i will tow it home from there.

The other option is I that I drive to Brissy, meet the guy who is selling it to me (who seems like a great bloke)
Go through everything with him and  hopefully tow it home in one piece? Lol.

The cost side is my biggest dilemma, im budgeting around a thousand to fifteen hundred to drive there and back, or only 500 for getting it to sydney and home.

Any ideas people?

Cheers

Evo, I work in Brisbane during the week and more than happy to assist where I can.  But as others have said, if it is big bucks I would be coming up myself.

PM me if I can help.

Melb-Bris-Melb flights are pretty cheap insurance.........maybe make a weekend of it.......

Ours was in Sydney, so we flew up and back in a day.

Well worth it, if your talking decent money.

Just a follow up on my comment, make sure you get the rego papers of them as beside your receipt its the only other proof you have for the autorities back in your state. And after you have done the encumberance/written off check which by the way has to be done on the same day as purchase to be legally covered just incase someone rocks up and says its under finance etc you show them the Certificate .Its also open on weekends up till about 2pm i think just incase the purchase falls on those two days and make sure you check the name on the rego papers and the Vin/chasis number is identical on the Rego papers and the Compliance plate on the CT.Im sure you know all this just some hints. On our purchase i was just about to hand over the cash and i said to him have you got the rego papers he looked at me a and said no .The wife and i both said to each other well we are not taking it without them plus i wanted to check numbers etc.It took him 30mins to find them .You can get caught up in the moment as we nearly did on getting a Ct and talking instead of concentrating.

Dave
Saw your shop the other day and it didn't click. Went into the camping shop next door.

Evo I registered the CT today and freaked when we couldn't find the VIN on the chassis/drawbar. We found the compliance plate but to register it here the number has to be stamped! Rang the shop and found the number secreted under the trailer.

Hey guys, Thanks for the reply's.  ;D
I'll try to answer some of the questions.
1: its located in Banyo, north side of Brissy I think?
2: Honestly, it's not a great deal of cash. It was actually a bit of a bargain. It needs some work, but at $3500 I'll still be free and clear for under $5k
3: I am now well aware whats required with the rego stuff in queensland. The idea was I would get the reciept for the trailer tow it back and mail the plates back to him.
(as I said, seems like a great bloke  ;D rego checks and all that have already been done)
4: lost as usual your a blunt old fella  ;D nope but at 3000km return, accomodation on the way up, food and random money spending I would fall between that amount I would say. I was averaging 700km to both tanks on the way up last time.

G'day mr trackabout, I was thinking that I may have to take you up on that beer, and see if we can do a once over it to check things are safe for towing it back if I do drive up? (beer will be on me )

Wayne, I know what you mean. Had that drama with the boat trailer. Easy fix tho, I just stamped it on myself
Glad you got it all sorted though.

Cheers again guys

Always great to read offers of help from my swaggers if u decide to drive save some of the food money by loaf of bread and some tomatoes if u eat them easy on the road meal could take more if u have car fridge on board as for accomodation caravan parks usually have cabins but each time we have driven (2 drivers) we just sleep few hours in car if no one is up to driving but both of us stop before tired. Good luck

Yep the offers from fellow swaggers are fantstic. Its a great place.  :D
I might take king up on that offer, if for no other reason than to make sure im not waisting my time.
Lol accommodation is only on the way up, easy on the way back.
And yes im buying a camper, its a 2007 superior campers hard top camper that needs a bit of tlc. Mostly a sand blast and repaint. New hitch and redo the brakes. Then clean the canvas. It comes with a drifter kitchen, annex, 2 jerries, water tank, two slide drawers and a free engel fridge. All for the pricely sum of 3500. So too good to pass up i think.

I did the brisbane trip a few months ago and wasnt too bad inland, but returned via the coast. Didn't enjoy the return trip so much. Although my exhaust manifold isnt leaking now so should be a bit easier.

Cheers
