Victorians are nice people after all :)
« on: January 31, 2013, 11:11:22 AM »
We just got home to Canberra after 7 nights at Pambula Beach... The first couple of days the place was packed with Vic number plates and the first thing we noticed was just how nice everyone was :) really approachable people everywhere - what a nice change...
Then they left and then in came the NSW and ACT lot... hmmm there seemed to be something very different about that crowd not at all like the nice Victorians at all.... I don't want to go into details but lets just say I am now thinking how to get a VIC number plate without having to move there....    Guess that won't happen so we are going to put a Big effort in to be more like our Victorian friends  :)
Good news for us though was that I did get a opportunity to help out some young Vic surfey guys that had had a crash in their 4x4 so lets hope (for us anyway) that we are on the right track   :) ....

To all Vic Campers -  I have taken a leaf out of your book and I will endeavor to become more approachable, helpful and friendly in future and to all those that I have been a A-hole to in the past I apologise...

Those NSW or ACT travelers that take offense to this you should be happy to know that it is you that are the bricks and mortar that is required to help change any misconception that I may have contributed to in the post....

Maybe there is a NSW ver ACT problem that I am not aware of which makes NSW and ACT campers on edge  ?????

I've never really dealt with people for Victoria.

Though when I was working in my previous job, I would take calls from QLD & NSW.  I could usually tell if they were from QLD or NSW within the first 20 seconds.

NSW people, in general are in more of a rush and have less time for pleasantries.

That being said, in the camping/caravanning community, I have found everyone to be all equally as pleasant (see very pleasent) without any real particular trend there.

You take 1 run down here, you register your car at someone with an address down here and enjoy the savings on rego + insurance. I did it on bikes for over 10yrs.

I'm surprised as to what some people are prepared to admit to on the inter tubes...
Also, this is a dangerous practice if you are seriously injured in an accident.  Wouldn't take long to be established that you had not been living in the state of the registered vehicle.  So vehicle potentially not lawfully registered.  Insurance could also therefore be void.  Could be exposed to high costs for vehicle repairs injuries etc to the other party.
If you own nothing and are prepared to be declared bankrupt you might 'get away with it'.
Otherwise, you may risk 'losing the roof over your head'.

don't believe everything you read on the interwebs.. I know dozens who do it and have done it for decades.. Even truck drivers. and many have had accidents and never had an issue

I was camping at a " dog friendly " cp a couple of weeks back, we took our puppy a yappy excitable maltese x fox terrier, any way my 5 year old had hold of the puppy by the lead and thiis bloke walked by swinging a plastic bag on the way to the showers so the puppy spotted this bloke and thought he was playing a game swinging his bag around my daughter lost grip of the lead and the puppy barked at this bloke my wife quickly ran up to retreive the mut pulled it away from this bloke and appoligised in response the bloke waved his bag above his head and said he is going to hit the dog over the head and kill it, and then trotted off.
I herad and saw what was going on but was busy attending something and before I had a chance to say something he was gone.
Well by now I was stewing at not saying anything so I waited for him to come back in which he did and I appoached this bloke and appoligised at the muts reaction and assured him that the mut was playing but I also mentioned that I don't take it to lightly threats he made in front of my now upset children and maybe it would be wise if he was to continue his ways it would be best he does not do it in front of my children he replied saying again that he will hit and maybe kill the mut if it was to happen again I bit my tongue let it ride and when the kids and wife thought I had cooled off I went for a walk to see where he was camping and let say I was a bit more stern on my next conversation. Well back on subject the plates on his car were not Victorian, Western Australian nor Tasmanian as I am sure it would have all ended with a hand shake. I will not judge on first impression on a person from where they are from but as of late the people I have come accross from where this weezle came from have not been good experiences

Back in the 80's in Adelaide I knew a fellow who used a big cage trailer for his work (renting out large sacks for garden refuse) and he registered it at his parent's address in Perth because WA rego was cheaper than SA.  He did that for years without any problems.
Camping is great as long as the mattress is inner spring!

i find its not NSW but Sydney that creates busy people therefore not as tolerent or friendly etc to strangers

but that is just a generalization and every part of Australia is capable of creating a "copper bottomed prize knob"

i must do a plate change when i drive home to WA in a few months time - WA plates look so much better anyway

Victorians rule this is why everywere we go people will make comments, mainly about the weather (there is more to live then sun) and how QLD/WA/SA is better then Vic..it becomes quite tiring really and it is normally because people are jelous and insecure...Victorians do not go on about how great Vic is and when we visit another state we dont tend to bag it or reckon Vic is better...we appreciate it.

I agree Vics tend to be good travellers and it might also be because we are used to living in cramped conditions (large city) so just try and get along with people..Having said that there a knobs everywere

People think that us South Australian's have a problem with the Vics.

Well I don't think we havea problem with them, I think we are just jealous of them!!  They have an awesome state that has heaps of nearby camping and 4wd spots, their drivers are friendlier on the roads, and they are a friendly bunch!

I actually love Victoria - it is my favourite travelling place, and we have always found the people to be  :cup:

I spent some time in Victoria and found when they are at home they are really quite similar to Sydneysiders, aside from the fact that they turn right from the left hand lane (I know, only in The city centre).

I would say that generalisations will allow you too miss great opportunities, some of us from NSW and Sydney are not all that bad :D
