CALLING ALL BUSH POETS

We have three fantastic map packs courtesy of our friends at Hema to giveaway to those who are able to best capture the spirit of the Australian bush, your favourite 4WD destination or great 4WD track in poem form.

Since many of you can be very creative with a yarn, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get those creative juices flowing and possibly even win yourself a great prize while you're at it

Don't know if anyone on here got creative and entered the comp, but unfortunately time's up. There were some great entries, and I'm told it was very hard to decide between them, but there had to be a winner so here is the winning poem.

HEMA POETRY COMP - 1ST PLACE

Louise Thompson

What the day may bring

We set off slowly for adventures afar, building the speed with camper and car.
The suns climbing slowly turning dark into light, the heat has replaced the coolness of night.
The fuel gauge is dropping as we push down the black; the colours are changing as we engage the dirt track.
The reds are so rich and the yellows so deep, Soon we will stop and find somewhere to sleep.

We travelled a while until we found somewhere right, with water and wildlife and not a person in sight.
An area was found and a campsite was made, as temperatures escalate there was a need for the shade.
With the awning erect, we sat in the breeze; we watched for a moment the grass and the trees.
They swayed oh so gently with the wind back and forth, is this, what it’s like, living up north?

It’s peaceful and calm with not a trouble around, the suns now descending and out comes the sound.
The frogs and the crickets is all that is heard echoing sounds through their own spoken word.
The car makes odd ticks as it cools from the track, the bumps and the holes and the dust in the back.
There’s dust on the camper, us and the car, but the day brought great memories from leaving the tar.

It’s time to lie down for our bodies to rest; we’re tired and burnt from a long day’s conquest.
Tomorrow we’ll drive to experience more things, Australia is great because the adventure it brings.
If your life’s lacking adventure, give it a push! You’re not the same person once you experience the Bush.

I have to say I'm a bit of a softy, it actually brought a little tear to my eye when I read it. Made me want to jump in the Defender and head West...or far, far North

Fantastic poem. Not that I'm a literary critic, but had I entered a Limerick my father taught me years ago, I may have given the comp a fair shake, it goes like this...

There was a young man from Sydney
Who drank till he ruined his kidney
He drank and he drank
And it shrank and it shrank
But he had fun doing it, didn't he?

l dreamed one day that l would just drive away
To see the country as the miles rolled away
With a quest to be there where ever l be
And a thirst to explor all l could see
The sights are unique as its all just out there

Jeeper's Camping Poem......

T'was the night before camping,
and all through the house.
Not a creature was stirring,
Not even a mouse....cause the cat got it.

So up at 2.00 and into the loo,
Half an hour later, i'd finished me poo.
By 4.00 i was ready, to hook up the tregg hitch.
The wife was still sleeping, the great lazy bitch.

By 6.00 we were ready, the CT and Jeep.
To piss off the neighbours, the horn we did beep.
We were off on holidays, we'll be gone for week.
The weather was changing, looking somewhat bleak.

At Inskip Point, tyre pressures down by gauge in hand.
Moments later, we were bogged in the sand.
The Jeep not just bogged, stuck on her belly,
I think while shoveling, i dropped out a smelly.

Before too long,
We were on the barge.

Arrrrggh, that's all i've got, some one else can pick it up from here.

& we went home

Silly season xmas special

But full sun is much better
