Need help identifying snake...
« on: January 23, 2013, 11:53:19 AM »
I've had a couple of these little baby pythons around the yard lately. Very small, the first pic show my car key in the pic to illustrate it's size. It's a carpet python which i'd say is Amythystine Python (Scrub Python), not sure but i want to know the exact species. It was quite placid, not that i handled it. Does anyone recognize it?

cheers

Looks like a baby Coastal Carpet or Morelia Spilota Mcdowelli, these come in quite a range of different colours.

Bredli are red and white (with black outlines unless Hypomenalistic) and have a limited locality of Central Aus in the NT (Alice Springs area). They'd be out of their range in QLD and be extremely lucky to have bred true with other rogues of the same species if a lost pet etc...The snake has typical coastal colouring (although they are very variable) and markings (saddles). I've kept and bred snakes since the early 80's and published an article on this exact species. I would bet both my nuts, 2 arms and a leg or 2 on it infact  lol.

Another vote for Coastal Carpet Python ... we had one called Monty ... but he's "gone bush" now.  See if I can find you a pic.  Oh hey, found the snake babies the BF rescued from a work site too.  So cute!   ;D

Might be harmless, but still would have scared the bejesus out of me.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Used to have a resident carpet snake in the shed each summer, loved to sleep wrapped around the drill press, was a hassle moving him when I needed to drill something but was a great snake, very placid but left snake crap every where, now there's no snake I have to bait the rodents, the snake was much more fun even with the snake crap to clean up.

Let it grow a bit, well maybe a lot, and I will not worry about the name, just call it tucker.

Yeah considering I think the key goes with this car.
I mean jeeps, do you really need such a big car? I mean if the hummer is a little big for our tracks, how do you go?  ;D ;D

With all the wet weather around of late, we have a little visitor hanging around the back door and in the carport.
Does anyone know what type of snake it is?
You may have top download the pic and zoom in.
